Biden Secret Service Codename: 'Assassination Insurance'
Printer FriendlyBy: Ann Coulter
While Gov. Sarah Palin is being grilled on her position on mark-to-market accounting rules, the press can't bother to ask Joe Biden if he could give us a ballpark estimate on when Franklin D. Roosevelt was president -- or maybe take a stab at guessing the decade when televisions were first available to the public.
Being interviewed by Katie Couric on the "CBS Evening News," Biden said: "When the stock market crashed, Franklin D. Roosevelt got on the television and didn't just talk about the, you know, the princes of greed. He said, 'Look, here's what happened.'"
For those of you who aren't hard-core history buffs, Biden not only named the wrong president during the 1929 stock market crash, he also claimed a president who wasn't president during the stock market crash went on TV before Americans had TVs.
Other than that, the statement holds up pretty well. At least Biden managed to avoid mentioning any "clean" Negroes he had met.
Couric was nearly moved to tears by the brilliance of Biden's brain-damaged remark. She was especially intrigued by Biden's claim that FDR had said the new iPhone was the bomb!
Here is Couric's full response to Biden's bizarre outburst about FDR (a) being president and (b) going on TV in 1929: "Relating to the fears of the average American is one of Biden's strong suits."
But when our beauteous Sarah said that John McCain was a better leader on the economy than Barack Obama, Couric relentlessly badgered her for evidence. "Why do you say that?" Couric demanded. "Why are they waiting for John McCain and not Barack Obama? ... Can you give us any more examples of his leading the charge for more oversight?"
The beauteous Sarah had cited McCain's prescient warnings about Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. But Couric, the crackerjack journalist who didn't know FDR wasn't president in 1929, demanded more examples from Palin.
We are currently in the middle of a massive financial crisis brought on by Fannie Mae. McCain was right on Fannie Mae; Obama was wrong. That's not enough?
Not for the affable Eva Braun of evening TV! "I'm just going to ask you one more time," Couric snipped, "not to belabor the point. Specific examples in his 26 years of pushing for more regulation?"
This would be like responding to someone who predicted the 9/11 attacks by saying: OK, you got one thing right. Not to belabor the point, but what else?
Obama was not merely wrong on Fannie Mae: He is owned by Fannie Mae. Somehow Obama managed to become the second biggest all-time recipient of Fannie Mae political money after only three years in the Senate. The biggest beneficiary, Democratic Sen. Chris Dodd, had a 30-year head start on receiving loot from Fannie Mae -- the government-backed institution behind our current crisis.
How does the Democratic ticket stack up on other major issues facing the nation, say, gas prices?
Shockingly, Sen. Joe Biden was one of only five senators to vote against the first Alaskan pipeline bill in 1973. This is like having been a Nazi sympathizer during World War II. If Sarah Palin does nothing else, she has got to tie that idiotic pipeline vote around Biden's neck.
The Senate passed the 1973 Alaskan pipeline bill by an overwhelming 80-5 vote. Only five senators voted against the pipeline on final passage. Sen. Biden is the only one who is still in the Senate -- the other four having been confined to mental institutions long ago.
The stakes were clear: This was in the midst of the first Arab oil embargo. Liberal Democrats, such as senators Robert Byrd, Mike Mansfield, Frank Church and Hubert Humphrey, all voted for the pipeline.
But Biden cast one of only five votes against the pipeline that has produced more than 15 billion barrels of oil, supplied nearly 20 percent of this nation's oil, created tens of thousands of jobs, added hundreds of billions of dollars to the U.S. economy and reduced money transfers to the nation's enemies by about the same amount.
The only argument against the pipeline was that it would harm the caribou, an argument that was both trivial and wrong. The caribou population near the pipeline increased from 5,000 in the 1970s to 32,000 by 2002.
It would have been bad enough to vote against the pipeline bill even if it had hurt the caribou. A sane person would still say: Our enemies have us in a vice grip. Sorry, caribou, you've got to take one for the team. But when the pipeline goes through and the caribou population sextuples in the next 20 years, you really look like a moron.
We couldn't possibly expect Couric to ask Biden about a vote that is the equivalent of voting against the invention of the wheel. But couldn't she have come up with just one follow-up question for Biden on FDR's magnificent handling of the 1929 stock market crash?
Or here's a question the public is dying to know: "If Obama wanted a historically delusional vice president, why not Lyndon LaRouche?" At least LaRouche didn't vote against the Alaskan pipeline.

Personally, I feel bad for your 'beauteous' Sarah.
It's not going to be easy to convince Americans that someone who can't stand up to Katie Couric will be able to go toe to toe with Ahmedinajad or Putin.
Oh, wait a minute. She's not trying to convince Americans. She's trying to convince Republicans.

Considering the only real Americans ARE Republicans then she should be ok as the vast majority or real Republicans are with Sarah. Unlike the RINO's and other wanna be Liberals.
There is no sense going toe to toe with Catie as she is the second least important and believed journalist on TV second only to Keith Olberman.
Of course Libs love her, but then again these are the same delusional people who believe the Constitution contains a separation of church and state amendment, who believe that welfare helps people, and that the poor have a RIGHT to the resources of the rich. None of which are actually true but Shhhh don't tell a lib that, it might destroy the fantasy world they live in.

I hope she’s as tough as she sounds. The first time Governor Palin apologizes for her life or beliefs to the media jackals trying to crucify her, she’ll be done. Frankly, Governor Palin in the debate tonight will have to channel a little Ann Coulter.

I'd be worried, guys.
Number 2 on the Republican ticket doesn't know enough about our foreign policy to even know what the Bush Doctrine is, doesn't know enough about domestic law to know one single Supreme Court decision and doesn't even know McCain's foreign policy position re: Pakistan, but in fact feels Obama is the one who has the correct ideas (By the way, Obama, was the candidate Palin was supporting before McCain picked her for VP).
As for myself, today I am enjoying the irony of the Conservative Bush administration having proved that Reaganomics don't work. The first Bush was right- Voodoo economics is a failure.

Bernard,
Please, keep your blindfold and your Bose headphones that drowns out any outside noise on. This way you won't ever have to look at anything that resembles the truth!!!
Under Bush 43 the middle class pays half the taxes that they paid under Clinton AND revenue went up by over 20%! The only reason we balanced the budget when Clinton was in the house, was the House and Senate was controlled by the Republicans and they forced it!
What no one talks about is, we didn't have these problems before the Republicans lost the House and Senate, only AFTER Democrats took over and tied Bush's hands!!!
WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE you politically deaf, dumb and blind Idiot!!!

It is disappointing to think that there is only a month till the election and they are wasting
Sarah's time on dim wits like Couric. We should be pointing out that the importance of
the competency gap is ever so much greater at the top of the ticket and Obama has no
credentials that would suggest he's ready to be President. Stop trying to make her into
something she's not. McCain is not on his death bed. She'll learn quickly and be better
prepared than Truman was if the time comes and she has to step up to the plate. In the
meantime, if we let this issue distract us, the most incompetent candidate ever to be put
up for the presidency by a major political party, who is sitting on 200+ electoral votes that
would go to a pig if it was a democrat, is likely
to become our next president in one of the most
dangerous and challenging eras our country has ever faced.

NewOrlnsGentleman,
I believe you addressed your statement to the wrong poster. Your post fits in answer to kevind's. While you make great counterpoints to his statement, may I suggest leaving off the last sentence? :)

Because a person does not satisfy Katie the Cutie Couric does not necessarily parse with his or her ability to cope with enemies of the state. Couric seeks to burnish her own dubious credentials with Gotcha questions. Enemies of the nation need to be engaged with strong advocates of the country's goals, mission, strengths and ethical norms. This Palin can and has done on numerous past occasions. If Nothingbama could reply to the marshmallow-balls lofted at him by sycophant newsies does not mean he is better prepared, as his VP would-be Biden indicates by his outlandish lack of grasp of historical realities, much to the amusement of those paying heed --on the side *not* serviced by the toady MSM and Couric's colleagues in deception for the Demorats (sic).
Conflating Couric with Putin and Achmadinejad is a non-starter and erroneous from inception.

Ann,
Once again I must say Spot On! Katie Couric is an extreme leftist and a whiny twit. The fact that Sarah Palin didn't crucify her is a testament to the type of person that she is. It would be like you going after Katie Couric...no contest! There's no point swatting a fly with a dump truck. Joe Biden is pretty laughable though. Unfortunately he's shown us that what he knows about depression era history would fit onto an atom sized piece of toilet paper. Barack Obama picked a good one there, heh heh!
Tonight's debate will be a good one. Another footnote here is that Libs ABSOLUTELY REFUSE to place any blame whatsoever on their best buddy Bill Clinton for our current woes. Why is that? They crucify President Bush for every tongue tie, everything he mispronounces etc.
When it was Bill Clinton's turn to protect us from Al Queda, they hit us several times. On President Bush's watch, they have hit us one time and they have not hit us once since. Also, it was the Clinton era relaxation of lending regulations that played a very large role in where we are now? Why is nobody but you talking about that Ann? Oh, I remember!
A certain liberal media bias, that's what it is!
"You can put lipstick on a Pig...but it's still an uniformed liberal socialist"
McCain/Palin in 2008!

At least if Obama wins, the comedians will have an endless supply of material in the form of Joe Biden.
kevind, I love your response ... "It's not going to be easy to convince Americans that someone who can't stand up to Katie Couric will be able to go toe to toe with Ahmedinajad or Putin." Because I can imagine Obama going toe to toe with those two by giving them both big bear hugs and a smooch on the cheek.
Now my question is ... how does a community organizer and baby Senator know more about foreign affairs than a governor and a senior Senator? Question number two ... so your saying his brilliantly chosen running mate, Joe Biden, could stand toe to toe with Putin and Ahmadinejad? Now that would make a great SNL skit!
