From Goldwater Girl to Hillary Girl
Printer FriendlyBy: Ann Coulter
Nominating McCain is the gesture of a desperate party.
Republicans are so shell-shocked and demoralized by the success of the Bush Derangement Syndrome, they think they can fool the voters by nominating an open-borders, anti-tax cut, anti-free speech, global-warming hysteric, pro-human experimentation "Republican." Which is to say, a Democrat.
As the expression goes, given a choice between a Democrat and a Democrat, voters will always choose the Democrat. The only question remaining is: Hillary or Obama?
On the litmus test issues of our time, only partially excluding Iraq, McCain is a liberal.
-- He excoriated Samuel Alito as too "conservative."
-- He promoted amnesty for 20 million illegal immigrants.
-- He abridged citizens' free speech (in favor of the media) with McCain-Feingold.
-- He hysterically opposes waterboarding terrorists and wants to shut down Guantanamo.
Can I take a breath now?
-- He denounced the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth.
-- He opposes ANWR and supports the global warming cult, even posturing with fellow mountebank Arnold Schwarzenegger in front of solar panels.
The only site that would have been more appropriate for Schwarzenegger in endorsing McCain would have been in front of an abortion clinic.
Although McCain has the minimum pro-life record demanded by the voters of Arizona, in 2006, McCain voted in favor of using taxpayer funds to harvest stem cells from human embryos. He opposes a constitutional amendment to protect human life. And he frets that if Roe v. Wade were overruled, women's lives would be "endangered." This is the same John McCain who chides Mitt Romney today for "flip-flopping" on abortion. At least Romney flips and stays there.
Of course the most important issue for pro-lifers is the Supreme Court. As long as Roe v. Wade is the law of the land, it doesn't matter how many hearts and minds we've changed. So it's not insignificant that McCain has called Justice Samuel Alito too conservative.
We ended up with David Hackett Souter when a Republican president was actually looking for an Alito. Imagine how bad it will be when the "Republican" president isn't even trying.
McCain uses the boilerplate language of all Republicans in saying he will appoint "strict constructionists." This is supposed to end all discussion of the courts. But if he's picking strict constructionists, he will have to appoint judges who will commit to overturning McCain-Feingold.
That could be our litmus test: Will you hold President McCain's signature legislation restricting speech unconstitutional?
In 2004, McCain criticized the federal marriage amendment, saying, it was "antithetical in every way to the core philosophy of Republicans." Really? Preventing the redefinition of a 10,000-year-old institution -- marriage, that is, not John McCain -- is part of the core philosophy of being a Republican? I had no idea.
I'm not a lawyer -- oh wait, yes, I am -- but Republicans were proposing to amend the Constitution, a process the Constitution specifically describes.
It's like saying it's antithetical to the core philosophy of Republicans to require presidents to be at least 35 years old. It's in the Constitution! And Republicans -- other than the ones who voted for McCain-Feingold -- support the Constitution. You might say it's part of our core philosophy.
Of course, back in 2004, McCain was considering running on a presidential ticket with John Kerry. Realizing that this would not help his chances to run as a Republican in 2008, when he would be a mere 120 years old, McCain quickly withdrew his interest in being on Kerry's ticket.
But he defended Kerry from the Bush campaign's suggestion that Kerry was not tip-top on national security, saying on the "Today" show: "No, I do not believe that he is, quote, weak on defense." So that was helpful.
McCain also explained to an admiring press corps why he wouldn't want to be anyone's vice president, not even a national defense champion like Kerry, citing the meager constitutional duties of the vice president as: (1) to assume the presidency if the president is incapacitated and (2) "to break a tie vote in the Senate." (At which point several members of the fawning horde were heard to remark, "What is this 'Constitution' you speak of, Senator?")
But McCain conveniently forgot the second of these constitutional duties just a year later when Vice President Cheney was required "to break a tie vote in the Senate" on a matter of utmost importance to liberals: federal judges.
Just one year after McCain had correctly identified one of two jobs of the vice president, he was indignant that a Republican vice president might actually exercise one of them. Better to let a gaggle of 14 Senate malcontents pick the president's judges for him.
As part of the "Gang of 14," McCain hysterically opposed allowing the vice president to break a tie on judicial nominations. Following the Constitution with regard to the role of the vice president, McCain said, "would be a terrible precedent." Yes, if members of Congress actually read the Constitution, they might realize McCain-Feingold is unconstitutional.
If Hillary is elected president, we'll have a four-year disaster, with Republicans ferociously opposing her, followed by Republicans zooming back into power, as we did in 1980 and 1994, and 2000. (I also predict more Oval Office incidents with female interns.)
If McCain is elected president, we'll have a four-year disaster, with the Republicans in Congress co-opted by "our" president, followed by 30 years of Democratic rule.
There's your choice, America.

Well hopefully B.H.O. will get the democrat nomination, there is no way I could vote for Hillary. I have such a visceral disgust for that woman that. I can not even entertain the thought of voting for her. I do not think we need worry about McCain winning the Nov Election. He doesn't have the support, most of his base has been Independents and that is not enough to win.

I wouldn't worry about it too much Ann.
McCain will get the nod, but will lose the general.
However, you are incorrect about one thing.
Hillary will win the White House, the Democrats will take both Houses and 2009 will be the start of the 30 years of Democratic rule.
And if the unmitigated disaster (otherwise known as the Bush Administration) is to be our example, its a good thing.

As always, your insightful wisdom and tell-it-like-it-is writing is refreshing. By the way, what is this thing called a "constitution"..?

Our military is going to quit if McCain doesnt get elected, thats the only saving grace about him, he will keep our military on line. All the other options right now are losing their relevance.
China, Pooty Poot, every jihadi surrogate they can still, find are slathering over a Hitlary presidency. Our domestic issues are going to disappear after the next s/storm and maybe it will take a fighter bomber to hold us together for a minute while we clean house. If the dhims take the oval office we will be attacked and how.
Its going to come down to one question: who will they fear the most. the press and our own complacency as a nation have brought us to this, not John McCain.
I am praying for a miracle that Mitt gets it and wins, but in reality after taking a good look at the electorate our nea has created, John might be the only bone we can throw to freedom. Prepare.

ann:
in spite of your being the smartest and most perfect woman who has ever lived, you are, dare i say it, wrong to pick hellary [that's right, i said it] over mccain, and for this reason: a vote for hellary [twice!] is a vote for supreme court justice belly [you can't stop me!] clinton!

B"H
"Incidents" with female interns? Oy!
At least McCain won't kiss Suha Afarat YSh"W on the cheek after she just accused Israel of poisoning the PA water supply.
Seriously, though, Ann. The points you make are important.
If we focused on getting more Republicans elected to Congress, and regain at least one of the houses, that would be important damage control regardless of who gets into the White House. It's a shame that no one is making mention of congressional races, albeit quite understandable.
A Republican majority could influence and embolden a Pres. McCain to do the right things. Court appointment damage would also be lessened.
If there's a Pres. Clinton, then the Republican majority would fight like heck, like you said, but more effectively, and a few years earlier.
In any event, you said you'd consider campaigning for Clinton over McCain. But, what if Hussein Obama is the candidate? I don't think you mentioned what you would do, or I missed it.
Inquiring minds want to know... as this becomes an increasingly possible reality.
I guess its time for me to let go of the fantasy of an Allen/Hunter ticket.

I say again: John McCain: The Manchurian Candidate
He spends seven yeas in an oriental POW camp, gets out and gets into politics, starts saying all kinds of weird things and--with a cynicism reminiscient of oriental culture--seems to almost make fun of his constituency and Americans in general by glibly spewing whatever lie he wants, knowing darn well that our nation of mental and intellectual jell-o will forget all about it after then next "T&A for beer" ad.
Any despotic jerk-off who can find a quarter billion dollars can become president in this country.
A quarter billion? 100 entities in the US alone could write a check for that much; this in a time when the state of LA wants a quarter trillion to rebuild a city that should never have been built in the first place

I think the best candidate never had a chance. Bring back Fred Thompson.
As a registered Democrat, I never realized how little choice I have in NYS until I voted in this years Primaries. When I saw the numbrs of people who voted in both Democratic and Republican primaries, I felt good being part of the process but powerless because I had no real choice.
I'm registered Democrat just to vote in the primaries. I consider myself a Conservative. Have a great day.
World events are moving at an ever increasing rate and I think the real factors in this race haven't even come to the fore yet.

I get Ann's column from two different sources and
don't know if the comments from the one cross over
to the other but here goes:
Please a little perspective here. We've had many Republican presidents who have not been AAA rated by the conservative caucus. Starting with our current President and working back through his father, Ford, Nixon, and Eisenhower. (I cannot
go back further, my age won't allow it.) But you see the only missing name is Reagan and there were times when you had to hold your breath when he took action, if you truly reflect on
his Presidency. Nobody's perfect, and maybe McCain is less so than most. But I don't think it’s worth throwing the baby out with the bath water. McCain will probably lose just as Bob Dole
did, for basically the same reasons, (Dole had his conservative blemishes as well.) And if he wins, maybe he’ll surprise us, (things are never as bad as they seem) but, more importantly, we have to think about the rest of the Republican Party. If we sustain another avalanche like the one in '06, we'll be so marginalized not even the filibuster will be effective in turning back
the worst the liberal Democrats can muster.

My prediction is that McCain will win the nomination and select Lieberman as his VP. McCain is dipised by the true conservative and Lieberman by true liberals. This will result in a demticket and an "independent ticket" with no true republican ticket.

The problem with gambling that hillarys term will be so disasterous that she will be turned out of office in 2012 is by that time socialism will be instituted in the structure of government that it will be impossible to correct.
If hillary or obama become president 2 supreme court justices will immediately retire and the court will take a HUGE left turn, locking this country into socialism for generations.
I fear for the future of this country, I thought Fred Thompson would sweep this country. When I heard Fred speak it was just like hearing Ronald Reagan.
Our only chance now, and I admit its a slim one at best, is to draft Newt into running.
Get ready to suffer greatly America, this country is preparing to suffer long and greatly at the hands of these muslim loving America hating Communists.

Just finished listening to both of the speeches at the CPAC meeting--- Romney spoke with conviction and about a strong America and the need to be family and value oriented - a true Reagan style and content speech. Then comes McCain speaking about how wonderful HE is and how important HE is and the things that HE has accomplished and that only HE can do what needs to be done --- what unabashed arrogance!!!! McCain talks about change in areas that HE voted against and did not support.... is this a matter of now telling the 'people' what they want to hear----of course! We will watch him for follow through in the months to come to see what he compromises and trades away for votes. Ann is right- we will have to hold our noses and build the right kind of support from the ground up with the future in mind - maybe with a true Reaganite for the top office.

Thewre is silly and there is sillier. Mr. Romney, the "conservative" who never lifted a finger to defend this Nation, nor encouraged his sons to do so, and wh, as the opportunist Governor was as liberal as the Kennedy's, pro Gay, and anti-right to life. Mr. Romney is less than a bright light bulb, inexperienced in policy or foreign affairs, less experienced than McCain or Huck and seems to believe the Garden of Eden is in Missouri. Wow, what a mind and what a set of conservative beliefs. Ms Coulter's rant is nonsense and seems to be about her. Ms. Coulter should embrace ideas and a heroic candidate, as candid as he is brave, Mr. McCain.

The idea of McCain winning has me as worried as Gore winning in 2000. I think if you look up RINO (Republican in Name Only) in the dictionary, they have a picture of McCain next to the definition. Anyone who holds hands with Russ Feingold and Ted Kennedy is a liberal in my book. I challenge anyone to provide me with some evidence showing that McCain is anything other than a liberal.
ljfyretruck got me thinking ... how many Democrats who are registered as Republicans voted in this primary? The Democratic Party being the party of dishonesty and felons, I wouldn't put it past them to come out in droves like the cockroaches they are. One of those things that make you go Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm...

A winning vote for The Putina (after Vladimir)in the
coming primaries might indeed give a nice kick start to a few more Reagan Democrats during the general election.
Therefore your advice and promise to campaign,in spite of coming from a lawyer, appears prudent tactically.

Early this p.m., I watched your presentation at a university campus (covered on C-SPAN). I love you Ann, but today you truly shocked and stunned me by some of your remarks!!
I'm a regular TBN watcher and listened to several interviews you had with Paul Crouch, Jr. The next time you speak with Paul, Jr., you need to chastize him for interviewing John McCain twice (which he didn't do with the other Republican candidates) in addition to allowing McCain to do a political ad on TBN! McCain is savvy and sneaky. He knows TBN broadcasts Worldwide, and wanted his remarks to reach not only our US Military stationed abroad, but he also wanted to change perception of friends and foes abroad, around the World. I realize the Crouch family has done much good, but they are also greedy. I imagine in exchange for his political ad, McCain likely offered to give Paul, Jr. a financial contribution to TBN's Ministry, so he could use it as a tax write-off. His political ad before all those primaries gave McCain unfair advantage over all of the other Republican candidates in the race with him. I'm positive it contributed to him winning all those delegates! It really upset me Paul, Jr. would show favoritism like that for McCain! Now that the other Republican candidates have been knocked out of the race, Paul, Jr. doesn't have to worry about offering equal time to them on TBN.
If you had a Mormon Senator like Gordon Smith, my Senator, you wouldn't trust Mormons either. He, like Romney, keeps telling people he supposedly is a "Conservative" despite the fact most of the time he instead votes for the political agenda of his Socialist Democratic good buddy, Senator Ron Wyden. Obviously, Mitt was able to convince you Mormonism supposedly is a "Evangelical Christian" religion. It's not. If you will read my lengthy remarks under Dave Limbaugh's column it will help educate you about this Religious Cult. I think you're primarily attracted to Mitt's good looks, intelligence and ability to articulate himself to convince people he supposedly is a Reagan Republican. Don't be deceived, Ann! If you study his record, you will see he isn't. He also supported homosexuality and abortion! So did Rudy Giuliani.
I couldn't believe my ears when you said you liked Ron Paul! He was my Representative when I lived in TX. I met him in person when I was Membership Chairman for my County's Texas Farm Bureau. Trust me, Paul is neither a Conservative nor a Patriotic American! Did you hear him speak last night, as well? If you didn't, do so and please correct the statements you made to those college kids you led astray by suggesting to them Ron Paul might be a good option! I'm willing to bet you some of those millions he says he's getting are coming from Socialist Democrats and/or MoveOn.org who are using him as a modern-day Ross Perriot to prevent a Republican from becoming President! I assure you if he runs as an Independent, he will kill any chance of any Republican becoming US President! He is against this War we're fighting to protect ourselves and said last night our Country isn't in any danger! He continually trashes President Bush and our Country, yet you think Ron Paul is a viable option?! My God, Ann! Have you lost your senses?!
I hope those college kids you told to vote for Clinton instead of McCain won't listen to you and do so! Hillary has promised she would pull our troops out within 3 mos. after she becomes our President!
I agree McCain leans too far left and is a borderline Socialist. Did you hear his remarks last night (on C-SPAN), when he tried to reassure everyone he supposedly will vote Conservative on future issues? Listen to it and tell us in your column if you believe him or not!
I also was astonished you defended Pat Robertson. If you listened to him on a daily basis the past past 6+ yrs. like I have, you would know he's not a Christian Conservative by a Southern Democrat! Despite knowing our President is an Evangelical Christian like himself, he continually plays armchair quarterback and trashes him. Pat is also one of the major reasons why America needs a fence along our southern border! Obviously you weren't listening the day Pat Robertson created an international incident, saying we should assassinate Hugo Chavez, the Terrorist Dictator of Venezuela. While I agree Chavez needs to be removed like Saddam Hussein, it was an idiotic statement for any Christian leader to make and the reason why Cindy Sheehan flew down to Venezuela to hold a joint press conference with Chavez, to defend him! Are you aware Pat's remarks are the reason why Chavaz kicked American Christian missionaries out of Venezuela and also why Hugo said he would personally ensure America was brought down?! I can't believe you support Pat Robertson! Go into his archives the past month alone and listen to how many times he politically flip flops during the same broadcast! His Son, Gordon, is a wonderful man with the common sense his Dad lacks to know when to speak and when to shut up!
We had a genuine Christian Conservative Reagan Republican--Duncan Hunter--running for President, but most of you in the Conservative media and press boycotted him in lieu of Thompson, Romney, Giuliani, and Huckabee; knocking Hunter out of the race! Consequently, Duncan Hunter, a Viet Nam Vet, is no longer running! If you want to endores someone to run as an Independent Candidate, why don't you endorse Duncan Hunter?
