McCartyism: The Rosetta Stone of Liberal Lies

Printer Friendly

By: Ann Coulter

When I wrote a ferocious defense of Sen. Joe McCarthy in Treason: Liberal Treachery from the Cold War to the War on Terrorism, liberals chose not to argue with me. Instead they posted a scrolling series of reasons not to read my book, such as that I wear short skirts, date boys, and that "Treason" was not a scholarly tome.

After printing rabidly venomous accounts of McCarthy for half a century based on zero research, liberals would only accept research presenting an alternative view of McCarthy that included, as the Los Angeles Times put it, at least the "pretense of scholarly throat-clearing and objectivity."

This week, they got it. The great M. Stanton Evans has finally released "Blacklisted by History: The Untold Story of Senator Joe McCarthy and His Fight Against America's Enemies". Based on a lifetime's work, including nearly a decade of thoroughgoing research, stores of original research and never-before-seen government files, this 672-page book ends the argument on Joe McCarthy. Look for it hidden behind stacks of Bill Clinton's latest self-serving book at a bookstore near you.

Evans' book is such a tour de force that liberals are already preparing a "yesterday's news" defense -- as if they had long ago admitted the truth about McCarthy. Yes, and they fought shoulder to shoulder with Ronald Reagan to bring down the Evil Empire. Thus, Publishers Weekly preposterously claims that "the history Evans relates is already largely known, if not fully accepted." Somebody better tell George Clooney.

The McCarthy period is the Rosetta stone of all liberal lies. It is the textbook on how they rewrite history -- the sound chamber of liberal denunciations, their phony victimhood as they demean and oppress their enemies, their false imputation of dishonesty to their opponents, their legalization of every policy dispute, their ability to engage in lock-step shouting campaigns, and the black motives concealed by their endless cacophony.

The true story of Joe McCarthy, told in meticulous, irrefutable detail in "Blacklisted by History," is that from 1938 to 1946, the Democratic Party acquiesced in a monstrous conspiracy being run through the State Department, the military establishment, and even the White House to advance the Soviet cause within the U.S. government.

In the face of the Democrats' absolute refusal to admit to their fecklessness, fatuity and recklessness in allowing known Soviet spies to penetrate the deepest levels of government, McCarthy demanded an accounting.

Even if one concedes to on-the-one-hand-on-the-other-hand whiners like Ronald Radosh that Truman's Secretary of State Dean Acheson didn't like communism, his record is what it was. And that record was to treat Soviet spies like members of the Hasty Pudding Club.

Rather than own up to their moral blindness to Soviet espionage, Democrats fired up the liberal slander machine, which would be deployed again and again over the next half century to the present day. In hiding their own perfidy, liberals were guilty of every sin they lyingly imputed to McCarthy. There were no "McCarthyites" until liberals came along.

Blacklisted by History"" proves that every conventional belief about McCarthy is wrong, including:

-- That he lied about his war service: He was a tailgunner in World War II;
-- That he was a drunk: He would generally nurse a single drink all night;
-- That he made the whole thing up: He produced loads of Soviet spies in government jobs;
-- That he just did it for political gain: He understood perfectly the godless evil of communism.

Ironically, for all of their love of conspiracy theories -- the rigging of the 2000 election, vote suppression in Ohio in 2004, 9/11 being an inside job, oil companies covering up miracle technology that would allow cars to run on dirt, Britney Spears' career, etc., etc. -- when presented with an actual conspiracy of Soviet spies infiltrating the U.S. government, they laughed it off like world-weary skeptics and dedicated themselves to slandering Joe McCarthy.

Then as now, liberals protect themselves from detection with wild calumnies against anybody who opposes them. They have no interest in -- or aptitude for -- persuasion. Their goal is to anathematize their enemies. Blacklisted by History removes the curse from one of the greatest patriots in American history.

I had the privelege of my first vote going to "Fighting Joe" in 1949.He was supported by the unionized labor force in Milwaukee because they had become aware of the direct connection between the CIO and Communist Russia. Each issue of the union weekly paper had an article with a byline from Moscow. Allis-Chalmers had had a 200 plus day strike that occured when 300 AC employees out of 500 attending the strike vote meeting in the Milwaukee Auditorium in 1946. The AFL-CIO local 248 leaders were both card bearing Communist Party members. The strike was broken when my dad drove through the gate when he had been threatened by "Kris" Christofel a Communist union leader who had worked with dad since 1919. He said that dad would have to drive over him and dad responded that that was his problem- and drove in to work because all of the double time and triple time wages that he had saved during the war were used up and he needed to feed his family. This Communist inspired prolonged strike reversed the attitude of the Milwaukee union workers towards the Democratic Party as being Communist led. Thus the anti-McCarthy pay back by the Democrat party which still holds sway in Milwaukee and Wisconsin - Still holding labor by the nose - recall that all communication workers - newspaper - radio - TV stage and screen are devout union members in they want to work.

Just for the record, your word on the subject was good enough for me but I'm glad someone else is picking up the other end of the load.
Unfortunately, the "Red Scare" propaganda is deeply engrained. I just saw a documentary on PBS the other night on Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, a subject that should have been simply enjoyable. But, Luci was named once in a Hollywood journal as a possible Communist sympathizer so I had to listen to the entire McCarthyism rap once again. I guess it will never end.

You know, until you write another book and title it "If Republicans Had any Brains, They Would Be Conservatives" We are losing every battle that you mention. But you are absolutely right and I'm reading your last book and it is excellent as all of them are.

I agree, of course. This was the first large scale "swift-boating"' of a modern politician. All that you related in "Treason" has been borne out and this is just the icing on the cake.

Of course, the liberatzis will not accept this as any kind of proof whatsoever. They are genetically immune to the truth. Even a book that is as meticulously detailed and as documented as this one will not disabuse the lefties because it does not agree with their anti-American paradigm of the way they see the world.

Now, since I intentionally used the term "swift-boating" in an incorrect context, perhaps we can get others to stop using it as an inaccurate descriptive. (Do you hear me BJ????)

I sure hope Ann can get on TC/radio to talk this up. I'm stll fuming at how O'Reilly responded to Ann's pointing out that Dalton Trumbo appeared before HUAC, NOT McCarthy: he claimed that "they" all worked together! Commie Trumbo went before HUAC in 1947, three years before Senator Joe took on the Reds, but the myth of him ruining lives. Spinmeister Bill & Co. live in a fantasyland. I hope Ann can get on there and try to teach all those clowns some real history. Does anybody out there know if Evans' book mentions the case of commie Michael Strait, who worote "Trial by Televsion" before defecting from the CPUSA? That's a story that need to be told.

I don't know if Jaksavin invented the term "liberatzis," but I love it! But all this scholarly research isn't going to move the liberatzis - if they "feel" something, it must be true, and they never allow the facts to stand in their way.

Ann, this is poetry:

"The McCarthy period is the Rosetta stone of all liberal lies. It is the textbook on how they rewrite history -- the sound chamber of liberal denunciations, their phony victimhood as they demean and oppress their enemies, their false imputation of dishonesty to their opponents, their legalization of every policy dispute, their ability to engage in lock-step shouting campaigns, and the black motives concealed by their endless cacophony."

Very good.

To be candid, I do not know if I invented the term "liberatzi". I have been using it for years. It may have been a similtaneous neologism.

I will take credit for "birkenstockista" "PMS-Dem" (referring to Progressive/Marxist/Socialist), "everestal" and "Lame Steam Media" (As far as I can tell.)

With regard to the 2nd part of your statement, as I have said repeatedly, "feeling" and "wanting to do something" is the exact same as actually "doing" something to the liberatzis. (Think of BJ Clinton)

Wonderful column, Ann!

I never knew that much about Joe McCarthy until I read your book. Up until that time, all I knew was that "Joe McCarthy" and something called McCarthyism was bad - VERY bad.

It figures: With the exception of BJ Clinton, any time someone is publically excoriated by one group in particular (especially if that group is liberals Democrats) with such reckless abandon as Joe McCarthy has been, we always find out the truth years later.

John:

I must admit, when I initially read your opening remark, I couldn't believe you were using the term "swift boating" incorrectly. But, I know you better so I kept reading.

Then you wrote:

"Now, since I intentionally used the term "swift-boating" in an incorrect context..."

and I went "phew".

It's more like Joe McCarthy had been "borked" (though the term didn't exist until later) rather than "swift boated".

And, Joe McCarthy was actually "borked" worse than its namesake Robert Bork. Joe McCarthy's "borking" has been going on for decades - even after his death.

Posted by: LynnJG [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 9, 2007 01:59 PM

Lynn:

You make a most excellent observation! Yes, he was indeed "borked." I posit that through the prism of time, Justice Bork was in fact "McCarthyed."

But, let's call a spade a spade, both, and primarily McCarthy, were slandered, pilloried and Torquemadaized all in the name of the god (N.B. small "g" intentional ) at the altar of Liberalism.

Funny, the first time anyone throws a sidelong glance at one of the priests or priestesses of Liberalism, there is a hue and cry from the Liberazi, immediate emails from MoreOn.Org, talking heads with their talking points all over the tube and blogosphere decrying the "unfair and unsubstantiated allegations" against one of their own.

Pelosi, Murtha, Reid, Kennedy, Clinton, Kerry, Cahrtah, al-G'ore and the rest are above reproach when in reality they ought to be under indictment!

God Bless. God Speed, God Help Us All!
