Did I Miss The "Hip" Part?

Printer Friendly

By: Ann Coulter

CNN commentators keep telling us how young and hip the audience was for last week's YouTube Democratic debate, apparently unaware that the camera occasionally panned across the audience, which was the same oddball collection of teachers' union shills and welfare recipients you see at all Democratic gatherings.

Noticeably, Gov. Bill Richardson got the first "woo" of the debate — the mating call of rotund liberal women — for demanding a federal mandate that would guarantee public schoolteachers a minimum salary of $40,000.

So much for the "younger, hipper" audience. Maybe CNN meant "hippier," as in, "My, she's looking a bit hippy these days."

Not counting talking snowmen, the main difference in the YouTube debate audience and the audience for the earlier CNN Democratic debate is that the YouTube debate had 173,000 fewer viewers in the 18-49 demographic. So it was provably not young and, on the basis of casual observation, definitely not hip.

As usual, the audience consisted mostly of public schoolteachers. According to CNN, the highest reading achieved on the CNN feelings-knob was for Richardson talking about public schoolteachers. (Some in the audience said they hadn't been that excited since the last time they had sex with an underage student.)

B. Hussein Obama said he was for slavery reparations in many forms, but the only one that got applause was for more "investment" in schools. In Obama's defense, the precise question was: "But is African-Americans ever going to get reparations for slavery?" So a switch to the subject of education was only natural.

Moreover, a question on reparations has got to be confusing when you're half-white and half-black. What do you do? Demand an apology for slavery and money from yourself? I guess biracial reparations would involve sending yourself money, then sending back a portion of that money to yourself, minus 50 percent in processing fees — which is the same way federal aid works.

It was fun to hear the Democratic candidates give heart-rending reasons for not sending their own kids to public schools. Except John Edwards. He got a "woo" for sending his kids to public schools from all those "young, hip" Democrats whose greatest concern is how to transfer more money to public schoolteachers while reducing their workload.

The candidates all managed to come up with good reasons for sending their kids to private schools — with extra points for reasons that involved a family tragedy or emergency — but it didn't seem to occur to any of them that ordinary families might have good reasons, too.

In her first risible lie of the debate, Hillary said Chelsea went to public schools in Arkansas. But when they moved to Washington, they were advised that "if she were to go to a public school, the press would never leave her alone, because it's a public school. So I had to make a very difficult decision."
"Unfortunately," she said, it was "good advice."

Was it really that difficult a decision not to send Chelsea to public schools in Washington, D.C.?
This is how The New York Times recently described the schools in Washington, which it called "arguably the nation's most dysfunctional school system."

"Though it is one of the country's highest-spending districts, most of the money goes to central administration, not to classrooms, according to a recent series of articles in The Washington Post. Its 55,000 mostly poor students score far worse than comparable children anywhere else in reading and math, with nearly 74 percent of the district's low-income eighth-graders lacking basic math skills, compared with the national average of 49 percent."

So Hillary was dying to send Chelsea to the D.C. public schools, but "unfortunately" did not do so only because of the press? Did she also agonize over whether to allow Chelsea to play in traffic?

She was not dying to send Chelsea to D.C. public schools. And no Democrat cares about "education" or "the poor."

Democrats care about social service bureaucrats who make their living allegedly working on behalf of the poor — the famed "public service" the Democrats always drone on about — jobs that would disappear if we ever eliminated poverty. That's why Democrats keep coming up with policies designed to create millions and millions more poor people.

Democrats fight tooth and nail against any measures that would actually help the poor, such as allowing schools to fire bad teachers. They refuse to allow parents with children in the rotten D.C. public schools to take money out of the public school system so their kids could go to Sidwell Friends like Chelsea.

Most important, Democrats resolutely refuse to tell the poor the secret to not being poor: Keep your knees together until marriage.

That's it. Not class size, not preschool, not even vouchers, though vouchers would obviously improve the education of all students. You could have lunatics running the schools — and often do — and if the kids live with married parents, they will end up at good colleges and will lead happy, productive lives 99 percent of the time.

But Democrats don't care about the poor. They don't care about the children. They care about government teachers and other government bureaucrats — grimy, dowdy women who "woo" at political debates. Or as CNN calls them, the "young," "hip" crowd.

Listen up poor (read: brown) people: Keep your knees together until marriage! So says the forty-something, cocktail-dress-wearing-at-7:00 a.m., still-single gal. I'm trying to come up with a stronger word than "hypocrite."

Oooo... Ann, I think you may have struck a nerve with Doorma, there. I mean, really! Falling back on such obvious Liberal tactics as "how can you possibly speak about that problem when you are [insert random characteristic/mannerism here]?"
...Except that so far as I know, Ann is not a single mother crowing about how tough life is and looking for government handouts to support her bastard offspring...
Other than that, Doorma, your point makes no sense. Thanks for opening your mouth and removing all doubt!
Oh, and Ann, sweetie, if Bill Cosby can't make that argument without being called an Uncle Tom and a traitor, the rest of us sure as hell don't stand a chance no matter how true it may be. Keep up with the fine work, though!

I didn't see a White, Brown or Black reference in Ann's remarks on unwed mothers. Only that young girls who think having babies is the only way to receive a check - gone are the days when one was supposed to work to get one - SHOULD keep their collective legs together.

Is it a liberal outlook that assumes ALL POOR are brown??? No mention was made of the "poor's" color, therefore, Doorma, I take exception to your comment.

Black was referenced only with regard to BHO's mixed parentage in the reparations paragraph, which befits the subject matter.

Thanks Ann...for saying what has to be said. You and Bill Cosby can both be assured that someone just might be listening to you - if you change only a few lives, that will be an accomplishment of which you can be very proud. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

And, yes, you do look good in that black dress! So what does that have to do with the price of apples?

To understand the following you must be familiar with the process of “Natural Selection”

The fact is that African blacks over the centuries adapted to the environment of central Africa. Those traits that enhanced survival were speed, agility, fertility, emotional expression and awareness of danger. They were both hunters and prey. Anthropologists note that this part of Africa never developed a written language, advanced shelters, the wheel or explored over water. Why? They didn’t need to! After all, necessity is the mother of invention. As humans moved to Northern Africa, a different skill set was required for survival so the environment “shaped” the gene pool of those groups. As humans move into Europe and Asia, yet other environmental stresses required other traits. Eventually we wound up with 3 basic races (and many subgroups) all with different strengths and weaknesses with each group well adapted to survive in their area of the world.

Now all of a sudden someone gets the idea that cheap labor can be had by obtaining millions of slaves from Africa. The problem is that these people were not adept at thriving in a technology-based society. We took the hunter-gatherer and dropped him in an environment that he was not adapted for and did not have the skills to excel. We see the results of this today. In general (note: I don’t mean “ALL”) blacks do not have the genetic ability to do as well as whites or Asians in the academic fields. On the other hand whites and Asians don’t do nearly as well in sports that require speed and agility. Blacks gave us “soul” music, Motown and rock and roll.

All in all I find it depressing that there will never be parity in the academic field any more than there will be on the basketball court. It’s based in genetics differences caused by natural selection. Ad to that a victim mentality fostered by liberals and a defiant refusal to "act white" and I fear that things will never change.

"Blacks do not have the genetic ability to do as well as whites or Asians in the academic fields. On the other hand whites and Asians don’t do nearly as well in sports that require speed and agility."

Excuse me? Therefore we have to lower standards and throw more money at schools in "black" neighborhoods while handicapping whites and Asians who've earned the grades to get where they want to go, all in the interest of equality, right? This sort of racism is the basis of that "victim mentality" you pretend to complain about.

It's not genetics, Samoyed, it's motivation. Kids from single-parent welfare families in crime-ridden, drug-ruled neighborhoods don't have a lot of it. They would have more if we stopped pushing government policies that encourage unwed motherhood and dependence on the government. We could start by actually fighting crime in neighborhoods dominated by gangs. If the crime stopped, businesses would come back, there would be jobs and voila, the welfare state would shrink. Libs find it more conducive to their designs if crime, particularly the drug trade, is allowed to flourish. Hence the porous borders.

"Anthropologists note that this part of Africa never developed a written language, advanced shelters, the wheel or explored over water. Why? They didn’t need to!"

Exactly. It's motivation. How could a wheel, shelter or boat change anyone genetically? They can't. The differences in social development are social. Obviously, the highly motivated people throughout history all over the world have left home to find something of their own. On a large scale, this translated into a migration out of central Africa. Geographically, the only place to go from there is north and east, and there is no other easy route into the area, so once the motivated people left, established civilizations, etc., there wasn't much reason to return. This doesn't make anyone from Africa or elsewhere incapable of anything. At most, you could make a case that the social support system of central Africa doesn't historically support innovation. Societal norms can be changed by determined individuals.

One other thing, about slavery. Slavery existed in every culture historically. It wasn't invented by New England traders, and the Yankee slavers didn't round up anybody, they only bought what was already being sold in Africa by Africans. That doesn't justify slavery, but the Judeo-Christian West is the only culture that has abandoned slavery. And I note that when slavery reparations come up, nobody ever mentions sending a bill to West African tribal leaders, when the slave trade was at least as much the responsibility of native African governments as it was Yankee traders.

It might have been Ann in "Godless" (and if it's not, I beg your pardon, Ann) who pointed out that the theory of so-called evolution, with its emphasis on natural selection, lends itself to racism. I think you've illustrated the point.

Doorma: What were you smoking when you wrote this? "Listen up poor (read: brown) people: Keep your knees together until marriage! So says the forty-something, cocktail-dress-wearing-at-7:00 a.m., still-single gal. I'm trying to come up with a stronger word than "hypocrite."" That made just as much sense and Pelosi saying the Condi Rice couldn't possibly understand how it feels to lose a loved one in Iraq because she personally doesn't have a loved one over there.

You don't have to be married with children to understand that some minorities are USING the system to take advantage of the system, and that these people are teaching their multitude of children that all they need to do when they grow up is get pregnant and go on welfare. So, if my son happens to agree with her, or agree with this point, he's a hypocrite because he's 20, male, and unmarried? You might want to change the brand of kool-aid you're drinking.

And as for all that hooey about how WE are the reason the black culture is sucking off the government teat because we took them out of their original culture sounded sort of okay, looked sort of okay on paper, until you put in one little fact that was conveniently left out... WE didn't do as much of that "taking against their will" as it appears. Leaders of tribes were SELLING their own people to other tribes and to the Dutch as slaves WAY before early Americans joined in on that party.

And since we're riding on the train to "Prove-you-wrong-ville", Let's think about Colin Powell, Condi Rice, and George Washington Carver. None of which are terribly sports inclined and could probably beat you in a battle of wits if they were in a coma.

Then we have that Yao fella who is about as tall as my house playing supurb basketball. See, you need to understand something... we have surpassed all that crap about the different races only being good at certain things. We have spent the last 50+ years telling our children here in this country that you can do ANYTHING you set your mind to. And those who truly believed that have excelled. Those who don't give a hairy flying rat's ass are living on welfare.

Plain and simple.

Ann,

As you can see, Doorma is upset over your comments about abstinence. She makes your point. You are still single and not adding to the bastard population. She is telling us that she is:
1. brown
2. not married
3. has one or more children by a man to whom she was not married
4. envious of your status as a single, carefree woman
5. does not think that she looks good
6. too poor to wear her 7:00 a.m. cocktail dress
7. feels guilty over her premarital sexual activities and their consequences.

I guess that you will need to find a way to "correct" your status by getting pregnant without a husband.

Amazing as it is, the ball had been served up and y'all watched it sail right past you. In fact, you succumbed to exactly what Ann was pointing out.

Liberals have no desire to do anything that they claim they do. They spew lies and venom under the guise of compassion. They are genetically incapable of answering a serious question without A) changing the topic (i.e.: the "obvious" link from slavery reparations to education), B) pandering to special (liberal) interests or C) blaming Bush and Cheney for all the worlds ills.

In contradistinction to seizing on this and parrying your rapier-like wits at the bleeding obvious you, for the most part, piled on Doorma.

Can't we all just get along?

That said, look at the salient points:

1) You Tube: Sorry, I have a job, I do not have all day to look at things created by those who are victims of the public school systems that do not put education first and as a result are "under-employed".

2) Slavery Reparations: I will be happy to write a check to any slave who can prove to me that my forebears owned him or her. This is extremely unlikely as all slaves are dead and I am 2nd generation American.

3) Education: Aww...come on now, this is a softball if I have ever seen one. First and foremost if the education of kids was the teachers main concern, their main concern would not be having a union. As far as teachers making $40k a year, the kids in my area would need to home school themselves. On Long Island, salaries for 1st year teachers are in that area, rising to $75k+ after 5 years/tenure PLUS benefits that would make a lobbyist blush. On the other side of the ledger you have teachers in parochial and other
"religious" schools who dream of making $40k a year. But, it is their own dang fault! They put the education of kids ahead of personal gain.

It has been proven time and time again that a private enterprise can do most anything the government can do more cheaply and more efficiently. Education is no exception.

In NYC the president of the teachers union had a huge rally at Madison Square Garden. She was quite embarrassed when a film was aired by someone who taped the proceedings. In a nutshell, it was more like a Nuremberg rally than a symposium discussing education. The talk was about wages, benefits, tenure, less time in the class, voting for Democrat candidates, voting for liberal candidates, how everything was Bush's fault and so forth. I imagine the next time the teachers get together they will talk about students and their education.

4) Kids and Welfare. As my dear friend meatpies always says "it is a vagina, not a clown car." (Yes, she always says that, she is, in fact, saying that right now! [Private joke]) If we reward people who are unable to provide for themselves let alone their children and give them more money for issuing progeny for cash why does anyone wonder when there is crime, poor education, greater cost in the form of taxes to the citizenry?

For the love of Pete, if we all stood back for a second and actually LOOKED at the problems instead believing/listening to/criticizing the words of the lying bunch of hooey purveyors and scoundrels on both side of the aisle, we would be better served.

When we place all of our energies into responding to rhetoric of the politicians, we are being duped as our attention is being diverted from the REAL problems. Look a the issues separate from what the politicians say. Come up with your own ideas and solutions then tell your congressman or senator what YOU think ought to be done.

The sooner we all wake up, make our voices heard by those who "represent" us the sooner they will realize that despite their agenda they work for us.

Do what we want or we will fire you.

'Nuff said.

God Bless and God Speed
John

John, Very well put on all accounts, as usual. I couldn't agree with you comments more.

It would be fun to see Ann's resonses to some of these comments once in awhile.. I would get a real kick out of it, although I understand why she doesn't too.

Kudos my friend,
Tanya
