C'est Si Bon

I'm off to Paris! I hereby revoke every churlish remark I've ever made about those lovely Gallic people. (But in light of former New Jersey governor and current "gay American" Jim McGreevey's latest career move, I redouble everything I've ever said about the Episcopalians.)

With Nicolas Sarkozy's decisive victory as the new president of France, the French have produced their first pro-American ruler since Louis XVI.

In celebration of France's spectacular return to Western civilization, I bought a Herve Leger dress on Monday, and we're having croissants for breakfast every day this week. This delicate French pastry, by the way, is in the shape of a crescent to commemorate the Crusaders' victory over Islam. Aren't the French just peachy?

"Sarkozy the American," as he is known in France, called Muslim rioters "scum." Louis, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

He explained his position on Muslim immigrants in France, saying: "Nobody has to, I repeat, live in France. But when you live in France, you respect its rules. That is to say that you are not a polygamist. ... One doesn't practice female genital mutilation on one's daughters, one doesn't slit the throat of the sheep, and one respects the republican rules."

Sarko never issued an apology or entered rehab. To the contrary, he said: "I called some individuals that I refuse to call 'youth' by the name they deserve. ... I never felt that by saying 'scum' I was being vulgar, hypocritical or insincere."

Is there a single American politician who would speak so clearly without then apologizing to Howard Dean?

It looks like the Democrats are going to have to drop their talking point about Bush irritating the rest of the world. Evidently not as much as Muslim terrorists irritate the rest of the world. The politicians who hate Bush keep being dumped by their own voters.

At the Democratic presidential debate a few weeks ago, B. Hussein Obama carped that Bush had "alienate(d) the world community" and vowed that he would build "the sort of alliances and trust around the world that has been so lacking over the last six years."

Democrats are terrific at building alliances. Remember how Jimmy Carter won the love of the world by ditching our ally the Shah of Iran, allowing him be replaced by a string of crazy ayatollahs? Since then, we haven't heard a peep from that area of the world.

The smartest woman in the world sniped that she would "create alliances instead of alienation."

Yes, it was spellbinding how her husband charmed North Korean dictator Kim Il Sung and his sociopathic son Kim Jong Il by showering them with visits from Jimmy Carter and gifts from love-machine Madeleine Albright. And that was that: No more trouble from North Korea!

As I understand it, the center of the supposedly America-hating world is France. But now it turns out even the French don't hate America as much as liberals do.

Au contraire! (We can say that again!) Our Georgie is the most popular American with the French since Jerry Lewis.

All over the civilized world, voters are turning terrorist-coddling liberals out of office and voting for politicians friendly toward Bush, the world's sworn enemy of Islamic fascism.

Those foreign leaders so admired by Democrats for hating George Bush and loving Saddam Hussein are being replaced by rulers who pledge their friendship to the United States.

Retrospectively, B. Hussein Obama's answer about our most important ally being "the European Union" may eventually become true, thanks to Bush's ceaseless ally-making.

In Germany, pro-American Angela Merkel crushed the mincing anti-American chancellor Gerhard Schroeder in 2005.

Last year, conservatives swept Canada, making Conservative Party leader Stephen Harper the prime minister. I haven't loved Canadians this much since the New York Rangers won the Stanley Cup.

Australian Prime Minister John Howard is both the longest-serving Australian prime minister and — by his own account — the most conservative. As The New York Times rooted for his defeat in 2004, claiming Australians were furious with him for his support of the Iraq war, he won a historic third term.

Along with Howard, Bush's staunchest ally in the war on terrorism has been Britain's Labor Party leader Tony Blair. He's about to leave office — only to be replaced by a leader from the even more pro-American Conservative Party.

American celebrities who threaten to move out of the country every election rather than live under a conservative leader are running out of countries to move to.

Only Spain remains a nation of women. As long as Spain exists, it will not outlive the shame of its gutless capitulation to terrorist bombings in 2004. It is worse than Sweden's neutrality toward Hitler.

But France! Until this week, France seemed a less likely place to find someone who supports America than a meeting of Democrats.

Apparently, even the French prefer Western civilization to clitorectomy-performing, car-burning savages.

The Democratic Party is now officially the only organization on Earth that does not take the threat of Islamic fascism seriously. Between the Democrats and the media, America has gone from its usual position as the world's last hope to radical Islam's last hope.

Zut Alors! So much for Henri Reid and Nanci Peloseaux changing their names! Mon Dieu! What is next?

But, if for nothing else, the election in France (we CAN capitalize it again) was a referendum between the Right, the Far Right and the Far Left. The Socialist, Royal, was perhaps too far to the Left for even the gallest of the Gauls and Le Pen perhaps too far Right. (I know, I know, he was eliminated in the quarterfinals.) Even so, Sarkozy is a breath of fresh air, garlic tinged, perhaps, but a welcome relief none-the-less.

Ironically, today Tony Blair announced that he will announce his resignation as PM. It is interesting to note that TB was buddy-buddy with B.J. Clinton. It was expected that TB would not enjoy the same collegial relationship with the incoming GWB. Alas! They got along like a house on fire and to this day have had a great relationship.

One, hell, all of us, can only hope, that Nick the Knife will not only keep to his words, maintain his bluster and keep the enemy on his toes but come to the Good Old U. S. of A. for a nice rousing rendition of Kumbaya!

(After almost 6 years I can now have a taste of a premiere cru Margeaux and not feel guilty! Vive La France, for now!)

God Bless and God Speed
John

How I wish that the recognized press and media would
begin a more balanced and non-politically motivated reporting of the news and that conservative thought could be viewed openly as an acceptable thought process instead of being ignored by most of what is called "mainstream." I am particularly angry about the left wing bent of CPB while using taxpayer's funding and being frozen out by newspaper editors in so-called letters to the editor publishings.

Crazy world, ain't it?

France elects a Conservative to office, Americans ready to turn them out of power.

Bush down to 28% approval, 2 out of 3 Americans disapprove of this Administration and now over 60% of Americans want us out of Iraq, even if that means being considered the 'losers'.

More people now registering as Independents, rather than Republicans.

To borrow a phrase from Condi Rice, "Who knew?".

Too bad France didn't elect a Conservative years ago.

America may have been able to bypass the Bush Mis-Administration altogether.

Wonder of wonders!!!!

Loved your unique way (as always) of telling it like it is!!! Thank you, Anne, for always brightening my day!

All I can think of Nikita Khruschev stating (words to the effect) that they wouldn't have to do it to us, we would be broken apart from within. He just didn't mention the Democratic Party (or their bed partners, the MSM) by name! With "friends" such as these, we sure don't need any enemies.

Darn it...I always forget - with an e or not.

Thanks, Ann!

You know the Editorial boards and newsrooms are desparately looking for stories to prove these are all flukes, and looking for stories to bring down the pro-American victors. Clearly theere must be some reason for this, other than they actually wanted these people to win. Hey! Maybe they had hanging chad issues?

Gee I wonder why circulation is down? Could it be that they are so wrong, so often, that no one believes them anymore? Hmmm.

What a wonderful thing! Here is a note I sent to a friend who is also, very unfortunately, an unrepentant Democrat.

Mon Dieu, E----. Je suis maintenant complètement préparé à . . . dans l'anglais, comment vous dites . . . manger de Frites français, achetez peut-être une bouteille de vin français, et, considérez un voyage possible à Paris!!

Mais . . . permettez-nous d'aller lents. Savourez le moment!

Votre ami,

M.

Isn't it wonderful having the opportunity to practice one's lousy French?

Ann says it perfectly as always. The media tries to tell people what the Left wants them to think...not the truth. The lemmings of America think we should get out of Iraq because the pussy-liberals of the Left and the media tell them incessantly the lies they want the lemmings to believe...and the quivering purse-dogs of the Republican Party just let them. I'm glad that the French have showed themselves to be worthy of respect again. Islam is the problem with the world, not George Bush. He may be just another RINO, and I'm furious with him about illegal immigration...but if the Left had been in power since 9/11...I truly believe we would have been attacked several times since, because America would be letting them bring the fight to us instead of us taking the fight to them. Our great men and women in uniform know this, and yes they're getting tired of the situation. I say let's take the fight out of Iraq, right in to Iran. Iraq will settle down because all the piece of feces terrorist would be fighting us in Tehran instead. Kapeesh? Our world is too dangerous to be a pussy...and that is what the Left wants. The pussy-liberals are the Brown-shirts of our times. Just like the Brown-shirts of the Nazis (National Socialists...sound familiar?), our own Nazis will do anything to further their cause...lie, steal, and I believe even kill...or allow Americans to BE killed...just to further their agenda. Get rid of the ACLU...ship the pussies like Alec Baldwin and Sean Penn and Susan Sarandon and all their ilk off to Darfur so they can help them with their situation...secure the border and NO jobs or services for ILLEGAL ALIENS...and eliminate Islam. It is a cancer. It is NOT a religion of peace. "Be one of us or die". Yeah, that's peaceful. We eliminated the Nazis, and Islam is far worse. But then, so are the pussy-liberals who are trying to destroy America!

Boycott Hollywood!

"Now I'm calling on citizens from all over the world, this is Captain America calling. I held you up when you were down on your knees, so would you catch me now, I'm falling." The Kinks

Now that I have gotten over my hysterical laughter – Ann, thanks – I REALLY needed that – what Ann clearly points out is how the media deceives us every time they print or report anything to us, and liberal politicians are either originating this misinformation sewage or are co-conspirators with the media in creating and reporting this rubbish, or both.

For years we’ve been repeatedly bombarded with how the French hate America, Canadians hate America, Germans hate America, Mexicans hate America, Iraqi’s hate America, Americans hate America, etc. To be exact, we’ve been led to believe that everyone except Israel hates America, which, of course, is why we shouldn’t support Israel.

Yet, with all of this hatred towards America, the media never repeatedly rams down our throats the number of Mexicans attempting to cross the American border illegally every day; or the number of Canadians that come to America for medical treatment that they cannot get in Canada because their illness isn’t critical enough yet so they’re near the bottom of the waiting list for treatment.

kevind:
“America may have been able to bypass the Bush Mis-Administration altogether.”

Are you suggesting you would have preferred a Gore Administration? Whether you like President Bush or not, EVERY administration, both Democratic and Republican, has its “mis-administration” and sometimes outright buffoonery (i.e., McCain-Feingold, Harriet Miers, to name a few).

Both the Clinton Administration and the Carter Administration were replete with “mis-administration” and buffoonery (especially the Carter Administration in the buffoonery department) if you would look at Democratic administrations through the same prism you seem to use when looking at Republican administrations.

But unlike liberal Democrats, Republicans rise to the occasion and let it be known when they are displeased. And, Republican politicians accused of impropriety step down.

Liberal Democrats, by contrast, “go to the mattresses” to defend and even justify some of the most egregious behavior by members of their own party. And, liberal Democrat politicians NEVER step down until they are forced to.

Also, be wary of citing percentages or poll numbers. Public opinion polls are always heavily skewed and/or weighted towards a particular outcome. Most polls are not accurate, or the results are not reported accurately. I've never been polled so any reported polling results do not include me.

Great column on France! I really liked the way you wrote your column this time and I really liked how you made the comparison between other countries swinging towards conservativism and how this country seems to want to turn out conservatives. I also like the way you typed up B. Hussein Obama's last name! I think that's what people should refer to him from now on. I also liked your blog area where the first writer named "John" wrote a very good comment about your article. Great writing John whoever you are. Keep up the great work Ms. Coulter and God bless and God speed!

Trochilus

Great comment if I may be so bold to say! While your comments mirror my last sentiment I am not so sure that I am so enthralled yet with the French (note: Capitalized again!) that I am planning a Grand Tour. I do hope that things work out with our alliaphagic friends!

(While the first growth reds still resonate on my palette [note: French word!], over the past years I have sampled some most excellent Aussie Shiraz [support your friends, wot say Bruce] and a wide array of home grown California offerings. And if you are looking for a particularly superb vin ordinaire, may I suggest “Smoking Loon.” The Merlot or Cab, both excellent values at 9 bux a bottle and I would put either up against any bottle under $25. Sorry for digressing, this is neither American Spectator nor Wine Spectator. My happy polly lodges)

Ziggy:

God Bless you my friend, you always bring a smile to my face with your insightful commentary. The scary thing is that you are saying what most of us are thinking but in a more descriptive manner! Keep the quivering-purse-dog-screaming-yellow-tailed-jackal-pussy-liberals on their collective toes.

Mr. J. M. Gates:

I must commend you on your perspicacity and amazingly good taste. Thank you!

To all:

God Bless and God Speed
John
