If At First You Don't Appease - Cry, Cry Again

By: Ann Coulter

In light of the increasing noise from the fifth column in America, it is a serious question whether President Bush would have the will to deploy military force even to stop a deadly serious threat to the United States.

I'm speaking, of course, of Darfur.

Saddam's barbaric rape rooms, chemical attacks and torture — those, liberals could live with. But now they want us to send troops to Darfur, a country from which no one anticipates terrorism anytime in the next millennium. If you're looking for a good definition of "no imminent threat," Darfur is it. The climate change "emergency," set to start taking effect sometime during the next century, is a more imminent threat to the United States than Darfur.

These people can't even wrap up genocide. We've been hearing about this slaughter in Darfur forever — and they still haven't finished. The aggressors are moving like termites across that country. It's like genocide by committee. Who's running this holocaust in Darfur, FEMA?

This is truly a war in which we have absolutely no interest. But liberals want our boys to go fight scimitar-wielding dervishes. While the Democrats hold pointless hearings into what George Bush had for breakfast, Republicans should pass a law prohibiting liberals from mentioning Darfur until Horace Mann and Dalton are prepared to put up a battalion.

So no, Darfur is not the threat I was imagining.

I haven't even told you what that threat is — though a hostage-taking, Holocaust-denying lunatic who doesn't own a necktie but is within two years of having a nuclear bomb comes to mind. You can already hear Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi saying, "If the Democrats were in charge, the use of military force wouldn't be necessary because we'd constructively engage them and appease their stated desire to kill us."

Damn that Bush! He's made people who hate our guts not like us.

In uplifting thought No. 57 about the war, liberals keep telling us that Iraqis are genetically indisposed to freedom, which I would characterize as the hard bigotry of low expectations. On this week, let us remember the message of Passover is that freedom doesn't come easy.

Moses had to grab Jews by the scruff of their necks and drag them to the desert for 40 years to get a generation capable of living in freedom — and even then the Jews were complaining about it being too drafty. The first "stiff-necked" generation didn't even want to leave Egyptian captivity.

Once free, they complained about the food, which apparently compared unfavorably to the food back in Egypt. Kind of reminds you of liberals talking about Saddam's rape rooms.

Even in the desert, the Jews would not stop with the golden calves. God nearly let the whole lot of them perish in the desert, he was so angry about their idolatrous ways. Only when he had a new generation, born in freedom, that didn't complain about the food, did he lead them to the promised land. For you liberals still reading, this is all extensively covered in a book known as the "Bible."

(Also this week, we celebrate a fast-track to freedom that doesn't require 40 years in the desert, but as I recall, the suggestion that we convert Muslims to Christianity was shot down early on in this war.)

If you want a shorter rebuilding process, then we're going to have to wage less humane wars. The enemy — as well as innocent civilians — must be bombed into quivering terror. Otherwise, we displace aggression but don't destroy it.

Americans are weaker for having seen that kind of carnage in World War II. Recall that the Worst Generation was raised by the Greatest Generation. That tells you how awful war is. The Greatest Generation was so exhausted by the war, it didn't have the spine to stand up to pot-smoking, draft-dodging hippies occupying administration buildings. But enough about Bill Clinton. If we're going to have humane wars, they are going to take a little bit longer.

That wouldn't be so bad, except that it gives fifth columnists more time to demoralize Americans and convince them that we are losing a war in the paramount struggle of our time.

Moses took his direction from the Lord.

Not Energy Companies.

One story began with a burning bush.

The other will end with one.

Ann, it has been said for ages that overwhelming force used to subdue and control an enemy, despite significantly higher initial losses for both sides will ultimately result in a smoother transfer of control and lower body count, both military and collateral.

Using that as a template one can obviously conclude it is really the democrabs who are the blood lust group. They let Rwanda go to the dogs. Other than screaming about Darfur they are doing precious little about it. Even Angelina Jolie can not adopt the Starvin’ Marvins fast enough!

Yet, ask a garden variety Birkenstockista about their thoughts of invading a country that poses no real threat to us, risking the lives of many brave service-people (or, as the libs call them “wasted lives”) with no clear exit strategy they will respond that we should not have liberated Iraq. (Or, “invaded the peace loving Iraqi people”, in lib-speak). And imagine their horror when you tell then that is the plan for Darfur.

Ann, the libs, of course, have no shame. First this week we have Enemy of the People, Nancy Pelosi, making nicey-nice with Syria. And, not content to break most every law of protocol, she feels the need to walk about Damascus with her head covered. (Well, it is a start.) Could you imagine the outrage if we made our treasured guests in Gitmo wear Stars of David or Crosses? The ACLU and the rest of the anti-Judeo-Christian left would be apoplectic! But, the ladies from the west must accede to the strict religious guidelines of Islam. It would be a reasonable request if those making said request were not so busy killing innocent people.

But, I digress.

Happy Easter and Happy Passover.

kevind:

Your streak is intact! The burning bush is neither the start of the Bible nor the start of the story of Moses. Swing and a miss.

As far as taking direction from energy companies, did you not mean oil companies? Other than that are you suggesting that we are in Iraq for cheap oil prices?

I guess that would explain why I paid $3.19 per gallon this morning for gas. Why, it seems that the war has given us cheap oil! Before the war I was paying as much as $1.73 per gallon and now the price has dropped precipitously to a mere $3.19!

What will I do with the savings!

Strike three.

I am not sure where you are getting you news from but here is a heads up, Lindbergh made it!

The Angel of the Lord FIRST appeared to Moses in flames of fire within the burning bush.

I'm not sure where you are getting YOUR Scripture from, but here is a heads up, Exodus 3:2.

And did I mention the price of gas at all?

No.

But as usual, you will continue to 'debate' points I never even brought up.

So long as it makes you feel you've 'won' something, I'm ok with it.

Carry on.

By the way, you seem unaware that a Republican Delegation visited Syria only days before Speaker Pelosi, and it now turns out the White House may have aided the Republicans in their trip.

I notice you also don't mention that Laura Bush wears a headscarf when visiting Muslim countries.

Have you looked into the fact that Congress has now requested e-mails from the RNC to begin the investigations of Hatch Act violations I referred to the other day?

Probably not.

Much easier to pretend I made it up.

kevind:

This will be my last response to you and your comments. Like putting lipstick on a pig, trying to make you see the error of your ways is annoying to the pig and a waste of my time. But I will sally forth one last time…

In your first posting you stated Moses took direction from the Lord. You added that “one story began with a burning bush.” I countered that the story of Moses did not start with the burning bush. You responded with a typical liberal response that had nothing to do with the previous remark. We are not talking about the Angel of the Lord appearing to Moses but to the first citation of Moses, which would be way before the story of the burning bush.

Your second point about not mentioning gas is true, you did not. All you said was that Moses did not take his direction from energy companies. How silly of me to make a connection between energy companies, oil and Iraq. What was I ever thinking. Please, expatiate, if not gas or oil what did those two seemingly random comments have to do with one another if not oil? Please do not answer.

Tertiarily, one would be remiss in not addressing the republican delegation’s visit to Syria. I am sure that they jumped the shark by going there against the president’s wishes. By extension, they, the republicans, if they had WH assistance might be considered an official delegation of some sort. Pelosi went against the president’s wishes and had no right doing so. But, like you, she, being a liberal, is not bound by convention or common sense.

Lastly, wallow in your delight about the Hatch Act, the Mann Act, Act II, Scene III all you like. I refer you back to the original Fitzgerald probe/witch hunt when all of the liberals were already patting themselves on the back for ‘getting’ Rove. How did that turn out for you?

kevind, more dems will be cooling their heals in stir than will be reps after all the hearings and show trials. And, I will go on record here and now and predict the republicans take back both houses in ’08.

Miss Coulter's reference was neither to the biography of Moses, nor to the book of Exodus, but to The Exodus (the journey out of Egypt to the Promised Land) itself. This story can logically be said to begin with the Lord's command to Moses to go to Pharoah and tell him "We're outta here". The genesis of the Exodus, therefore is the theophany of the incendiary shrub.
Easter Blessings,

Score one for kevind.

Oil, schmoil! Of course oil had a lot to do with going there. What's wrong with that!?!

Score a draw.

Predictions: "end with a burning bush" "republicans will take back both houses in '08"

Assuming "burning bush" is metaphor for another 9/11 type event(s) or an LA A-Bomb a la "24"...it's almost a certainty. GOP taking both houses...Hah. (But I was wrong in '94, so here's hoping.)

Score one more for Kevin.

One foul each for implied ad hominem characterizations..."lipstick on a pig...", "as usual you continue..."

Hate to give one to the lefty, but I come up with kevind 2-1-1 to jaksavin's 1-1-2.

Easter and Passover blessings to all, God bless and keep you both.

Moses was a man who had a speech impediment as I do, and he was not keen on meeting people and had to have Aaron speak for him for awhile. But by the time he be reached the sea where he parted the waters with God's help, he didn't need anybody speaking for him. He commanded the people to watch what God would do while there was a pillar of fire holding back the old dictator Pharaoh, God was showing the rest of the stubborn Israelites His power and pushing back the water so that they could walk through on dry land If that wasn't enough then once the Hebrews or Israelites had passed through the water, the pillar of fire disappeared and the army rushed in after the Jews only to have the water overwhelm them and pharaoh's army was washed away. Moses took his orders from God and the people trusted him that he wasn't some kook leading them into trouble but Moses felt that God had put him in charge of a thickheaded people and that's what we have today when it comes to the liberal left and the peaceniks who want to go and reason with our enemies like Queen bee Nancy Pelosi. I thought Condoleezza Rice was our Secretary of State and not the speaker of the House. I wish the Democrats would all find a spacecraft large enough to take them to another country or planet where they all could inhabit their own world and leave us alone since that's not going to happen I hope you keep writing your columns Ms. Coulter and I hope you'll keep pointing out the tragic hypocrisy that permeates the Democratic Party and how they are in their policies, harmful to the American people. The United States of America was not founded by a bunch of wimpy spineless whiny Democrats who complain about everything President George Bush does or doesn't do. I have never seen such a president and vice president and chief of staff under such ferocious relentless attacks every day by the drive-by media and by the Democrats. They are in cahoots I imagine with Al Qaeda and Hezbollah and other groups to bring down this presidency. What else could explain their vitriol and their horrible humorless attacks on President Bush and then complaining that there is no stability in Washington. Then they wonder where has all the civility gone. Keep up the great work!

What we need to do is simple and straightforward. To reduce these populations into "Quivering Terror" we should start "Wars of Liberation" within their borders. The United States should, through a third (or fourth) parties, secretly support insurgents within Iran. Iran is deeply fragmented with angry minorities that would L-O-V-E a chance to cut Ahmadinejad's throat and we should give them that opportunity. A few rifles, some C-4 and a little training. Let them do our work for us while we fold our arms and say, "Damn, ain't that just terrible, we would love to help you guys but the Democrats wouldn't like it."
In this way we would have at our disposal nearly unlimited troops (local militias, political organizations, etc.) and all we need do is supply the arms through an off-shore company/organization. When the time comes that the new regime becomes troublesome we support some new group against them. By the time we are through with the Iranians (or any other Muslim/radical nation) they will be howling for peace, even the slightest whisper of violence might be cause for an execution.
If it's death and violence they want we should give it to them. Muslim countries have never hesitated to utilize Jihad, except now they would be using it against themselves in a desperate struggle to merely survive. As my Grandfather once told me, "If a guy is getting into trouble what they need is a hobby to keep them busy", however in this case the "hobby" would be mere day-to-day survival.

Hi
I am new to writing here so help me out. There was no internet when I was coming up, hell, there was no tv either. I read the columns here and other places and it seems to me that you all get off the track too easily. Even that is not too bad I figure as there are other points of view being talked about. I see some of the same people writing here and in other columns also. If you don't mind I would like to point out what I see from you all.
Most of us are conservatives or republicans but there are a few who like to stir up the pot. SOme of you all might be liberals and some of you all are writing things just to get our dander up. I think some of you all like to hear yourself talk and others are here to make a point. the thing I dont understand is why someone is bad to count things, like it is a contest. Maybe because I am an old timer I see things different than younger people but we are all entitled to our opinions and they should be respected even if you disagree. some folks like Lynnjg and jaksavin generally make good sense but sometimes they go on forever others like Capeconservative are more to teh point. That Ziggy guy is funny and I like what he says. But it is the liberals and those who are just muddying up the waters who are even funnier. I think that Kevin must not read too much or he is just here to aggravate some of you all. Seems to me he does not pay attention to what other folks write. I do not want to wear out my welcome but I hope that I get to read more good ideas and opinons of things going one. In looking over the things you all wrote in this column maybe someone can tell me what that fellow Dick Deli means? Anyway he got me to thnking and I looked over the things in this column again. Seems to me he is reading another column than me. He didnt say anything about Miss Coulters column and seemed to score what some of the others wrote. I guess he is a fried of that Kevin fellow since it seems to me that he liked what he had to say. Maybe I just dont get it but it looked to me that he did not read what jaksavin wrote, I think he had it correct and that Dick did not get the point. I thank Dick because I learned a new term. I had to look up ad hominim but I doubt I'll ever use it. he missed the point that jaksavin was making. In Georgia we have an old saying that it is like putting lipstick on a pig or teaching a pig to whistle. It is a waist of time. I might be wrong but that is what I think the first guy meant and that it was not an insult. I will just sit back now and watch you all have fun. Play nice.

She, who must be obeyed, is, as usual, dead on (another localism) in her comments. The main problems the liberal readers have with Ms. Coulters' work are, 1; their lack of knowledge and general intellectual honesty and, 2; their ability to keep their mouths closed and fingers still while they actually think about they have heard or read. These problems, unfortunately, guarantee continued ignorance. With no ability to accept new information, the individual is reduced to the role of vomiting up past propaganda (ugh). I hope that sounds as unpleasant as it is in reality. People as automatons disgust me. That some are simply "wound up" and sent stupidly out into the world to do someone else’s bidding is the meanest form of slavery. However, we already know liberals do not really object to using people. We see it in what they do, not in what they say.

In these times, I wonder what would appease liberal Democrats and Rinos, other than reducing the United States to Darfur status. Great column, Anne.

John,
You need to reread Ann's book "How to talk to a liberal, if you must". Kevin's only going to hear what he wants. As w/ all lefties, their inferiority complex compels them to continue to argue even once their point is proven wrong. To not do so would be to admit the vacuity of their lives & beliefs.

Although, I must say, it was entertaining.
