The Coming Ass Age

Printer Friendly

By: Ann Coulter

No matter how much liberals try to dress up their nutty superstitions about global warming as "science," which only six-fingered lunatics could doubt, scratch a global warming "scientist" and you get a religious fanatic.

These days, new religions are barely up and running before they seize upon the worst aspects of the God-based religions.

First, there's the hypocrisy and corruption. At the 1992 Democratic Convention in New York, Al Gore said: "The central organizing principle of governments everywhere must be the environment." The environment would not, however, be the central organizing principle of Gore's own life.

The only place Al Gore conserves energy these days is on the treadmill. I don't want to suggest that Al's getting big, but the last time I saw him on TV I thought, "That reminds me — we have to do something about saving the polar bears."

Never mind his carbon footprint — have you seen the size of Al Gore's regular footprint lately? It's almost as deep as Janet Reno's.

But I digress. As has been widely reported, Gore's Tennessee mansion consumes 20 times the energy of the average home in that state. But it's OK, according to the priests of global warming. Gore has purchased "carbon offsets."

It took the Catholic Church hundreds of years to develop corrupt practices such as papal indulgences. The global warming religion has barely been around for 20 years, and yet its devotees are allowed to pollute by the simple expedient of paying for papal indulgences called "carbon offsets."

Americans spend an extra $2.2 billion on gas a year because they're overweight, requiring more fuel in cars to carry the extra pounds. So even with all those papal indulgences, Gore may have a small carbon footprint, but he has a huge carbon butt-print.

Further proving that liberalism is a religion, its practitioners respond with the zeal of Torquemada to any dissent from the faith in global warming.

A few years ago, Danish statistician Bjorn Lomborg wrote a book titled "The Skeptical Environmentalist," disputing the hysteria surrounding global warming and other environmentalist scares. Lomborg is a Greenpeace anti-war protester — or, as he is described on liberal Web sites, he is a "young, gay vegetarian Dane with tight T-shirts." His book was cited favorably in The New York Times.

But for questioning the "science" behind global warming, Lomborg was brought up on charges of "scientific misconduct" by Denmark's Inquisition Court, called the "Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation." I take it Denmark's Ministry of Truth was booked solid that day.

The moment anyone diverges from official church doctrine on global warming, he is threatened with destruction. Heretics would be burnt at the stake if liberals could figure out how to do it in a "carbon neutral" way.

Climatologist Dr. Timothy Ball is featured in the new documentary debunking global warming, titled "The Great Global Warming Swindle." For this heresy, Ball has received hate mail with such messages as, "If you continue to speak out, you won't live to see further global warming."

I'm against political writers whining about their hate mail because it makes them sound like Paul Krugman. But that's political writers arguing about ideology.

Global warming is supposed to be "science." It's hard to imagine Niels Bohr responding to Albert Einstein's letter questioning quantum mechanics with a statement like: "If you continue to speak out, you won't live to see further quantum mechanics."

Come to think of it, one can't imagine the pope writing a letter to Jerry Falwell saying, "If you continue to speak out, you won't live to see further infallibility."

If this is how global warming devotees defend their scientific theory, it may be a few tweaks short of a scientific theory. Scientific facts are not subject to liberal bullying — which, by the way, is precisely why liberals hate science.

A few years ago, The New York Times ran an article about the continuing furious debates among physicists about quantum mechanics, which differs from global warming in the sense that it is supported by physical evidence and it doesn't make you feel good inside to "do something" about quantum mechanics. It is, in short, science.

Though he helped develop the theory of quantum mechanics, Einstein immediately set to work attacking it. MIT cosmologist Max Tegmark called the constant testing and arguing about quantum mechanics "a 75-year war."

That's how a real scientific theory operates. That's even how a real religion operates. Only a false religion needs hate mail, threats, courts of inquisition and Hollywood movies to sustain it.

Devastatingly effective comparison; lucid, logical, and thought-provoking argument... You might as well be speaking one of the African clicking languages to the other side with that kind of approach.

Much can be said about Algore and his crusade against global warming but chief among them would be his unbridled hypocrisy.

I know, I know, you are saying, “Oh, come on now, John, a liberal who is hypocritical?”

I hate to burst your bubble, Virginia, but, yes, there are hypocritical liberals.

I find it funny that Algore considers himself “carbon neutral” with respect to his carbon footprint. Now, I am not sure how many frequent-carbon miles one needs to rack up on their carbon-credit card to fly Gulfstreams, be squired around in limousines, have semi-trucks full of fried pork rinds making deliveries to ones house every day.

To speak to Ann’s indulgence contention, it seems that Algore is creating a daily double with his carbon-neutrality. (I wonder if that originate in Switzerland.)

On the one hand, buying carbon-credits is akin to hiring someone to commit a crime. Someone else does the dirty work and you get the benefit. Or, perhaps, the Civil War practice that rich folk paid po’ folk to take their place in the War is a better analogy. Either way, you are buying your way out of responsibility.

On the other is the more egregious and candidly even more insidious, buying the use of the carbon that others are not using.

Huh?

If I understand Algore’s contention of global warming (and his take on it is about as clear as Chinese algebra to me) is that we need to reduce the amount of carbon-based emissions. Now, Algore wants OTHERS to not create these emissions so that he can pay them and use them himself.

A savings plan that takes money out of one’s left pocket and puts it into the right pocket is not a savings plan at all. So, Algore, how does your using the carbon-credits create a decrease in carbon-emissions when it is a net-zero savings?

But, not being a liberal makes it difficult for me to understand the un-understandable or defend the indefensible.

(Algore claims that he has myriad of backers and supporters. Agreed. But for some odd reason, thousands of people show up at Star Trek conventions dressed as their favorite characters. That does not make them experts in interstellar travel. Just a thought.)

God Bless and God Speed
John

Ann, you should be required reading in all the public schools. You correctly re-identify leftism (there's nothing liberal about it--the biggest pack of stubborn ol' sticks-in-the-mud you'd ever want to deal with) as a religion rather than a political movement. This is something for which I've long watched. Leftism requires belief in unprovable things. In any dictionary, that's called faith. But beyond that, the quality and quantity of fanatic zeal among leftists shows that their political beliefs go far beyond mere politics. Politics by necessity includes compromise. As a human condition, politics has errors. Leftism can't handle compromise or mistakes.

These are scary people. They're a lot like the crusaders, but leftism, not Chistianity, drives their holy swords of unswerving truth.

Algore's rich because his dad buddied up with Armand Hammer and invested heavily in Hammer's Occidental Petroleum. Like every other oil company, they drill, spill and destroy habitats, sacred burial grounds and ecosystems, and they also make their stockholders, like the Gore family, very, very rich.

Is the earth warming? I reckon so. But everything humans do creates heat. Populations grow, more people buy more appliances and machines, and they all pump heated gases and radiate heat. This all happened in the last 100 years: in a geological milisecond, the amount of heat has ramped up a lot.

So, the earth is warming faster than it normally would. Duh! If everybody shut off computers and cars for a week, the climate would change. We'd see an ice age. Maybe that's how the last one started: somebody pulled the plugs and took away the keys, and it started snowing and just didn't stop.

Good job, Ann; stay with it.

Andy

Ann's comparison of the "Religion of Liberalism" to the Inquisition is quite true. The zeal of liberals around their religion is equal to that of the Inquisitors...and the Zealots...and the Nazis...and the Muslim Terrorists (is that redundant?)...and Jim Jones...and Louis Farrakhan...and Josef Stalin...and all the other fanatical groups through history. "Global Warming" is just one of their agendas, and Algore seems to be their prophet for THAT one. Carbon footprint...whatever!! That's like William Hung thinking he could win American Idol. I have to respect Ed Begley Jr. though...at least he practices what he preaches...unlike Algore, who instructs everyone to do what he himself is not doing. Where are the scientists who support his cult? There are dozens and dozens who debunk it...and I especially like the gauntlet thrown down by British scientist Sir Something-something Monck (sp?). Will Algore participate in an international debate? Bet not! He couldn't last 1 round on "Think you're smarter than a 5th Grader?".

True to form though...as the good liberal that he is...Algore knows that if he says the lies enough, they will become the truth. Thank God there are people who can and WILL combat these lies. We need ALL the lies to be combatted and debunked IN FRONT OF AMERICA every week! Ann and her colleagues do such great service to America and us Americans...yet Ann's message doesn't reach the lemmings of America who NEED to hear it!

Boycott Hollywood!! Don't give those schleps any more of your money!!

"Now I'm calling on citizens from all over the world, this is Captain America calling. I held you up when you were down on your knees, so would you catch me now I'm falling..." The Kinks

Dear Miss Coulter,
I would not have a problem with global warming if it were to occur some day. I can't help but think of these liberals as biological tissue animated by evil intent.

The co founder of Greenpeace, no less, has come out saying the global warming issue is a hoax and to pursue CO2 reduction will kill poor blacks in africa. Cheap energy helps the poor and extends life. Why don't the Republicans run with this issue?

Right on the money, Ann!

Global Warming is such a crock. I believe it was Rachel Marsden who calls it “glo-bull warming”. Thank-you Rachel for such great terminology!

Liberal Democrats, just like communists and socialists, prey on the fears of others to gain more control for themselves over others. It doesn’t matter that their arguments about “glo-bull warming” just do not make sense.

“Glo-bull warming” is supposed to be about the entire planet and atmosphere warming due to the “greenhouse effect”. But, the results of “glo-bull warming” are supposedly hotter summers, colder summers, hotter winters, colder winters, floods, droughts – you name it.

As for “glo-bull warming” causing every disaster imaginable, as if we’ve never had any before, no one has been able to explain to me how such drastically opposite events are possible if the entire planet and atmosphere are warming. Basically, everything is the result of “glo-bull warming”.

This sort of reminds me of commercials for drug “XYZ” that supposedly cures depression but can have side effects of headaches, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, liver disease, heart attack and/or stroke. I may GET headaches, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, liver disease, heart attack and/or stroke but by using drug “XYZ” at least I won’t be depressed about it.

Or, those commercials that tell me I may have “ABC” disease and need drug “XYZ” if I have experienced headaches, irritability, nausea, vomiting, chills and diarrhea. Never mind the fact that I may just be PMS-ing.

If you argue with environmentalists, it is you that is deemed a heretic. It is you that is physically threatened. It is you who needs to be silenced. It is you who should not question. They are smarter than you because they believe they are as knowledgeable and powerful as God. Eventually they will be able to control everything including death itself so have no fear all ye plebes.

And, after debunking every one of their arguments, the only argument “glo-bull warming” ecclesiasts are left with is, “Well, what if it’s true?”

Everyone’s internal freedom alarm should sound profusely the moment any person or group demands complete and resolute adherence to something without question. The moment any person or group threatens, silences, or recommends policies designed at silencing any and all opposition has something to hide. This is communism.

Oh, and Ann - I really didn’t need the mental image of Al Gore’s butt or his butt print!

John:
“On the one hand, buying carbon-credits is akin to hiring someone to commit a crime. Someone else does the dirty work and you get the benefit .”

You’re a bit off on that. It’s more like hiring someone to be good in your place while you continue your old ways of raiding, pillaging and plundering the planet.

Gore is the PT Barnum of the 21st Century; but without the brains, charm, or voice. :)

Posted by: Bernard [TypeKey Profile Page] at March 23, 2007 11:53 AM

Ann, as always you are spot on.

Everyone is getting lathered up and breaking into a sweat over buying carbon-credits. Doesn't it make you feel warm and fuzzy that Algore bought carbon-credits to offset his carbon foot-print? What Americans should really know about "gore-warming" is where did Algore buy his offsets and how he plans to make billions off of unsuspecting Americans buying offsets from Generation Investment Management (GIM). I have no problem with Algore's capitalism. What I have a problem with is the flimflam approach Algore is using to convenience everyone the sky-is-falling while sitting back and waiting for future offset buying and investing in companies GIM invests.

The really frightening thing about global warming is that it is by far the first most appealing environmental sky-is-falling topic in years that liberals and enviros can cart out and sell to the ill-informed American public. How can you possibly be against making the environment better? As the argument goes, if you do not believe in the science, then your fall back position as a liberal is to invoke the "precautionary principle" (i.e., we cannot afford to not do anything). Really?

After the liberals have everyone scared out of their carbon wits, the next step in the Democrat's agenda will be to require everyone to pay a CARBON TAX. This whole idea of buying carbon credits is a total smoke screen (pun intended) to push the Democrats real agenda of increasing our taxes anyway they can. Can you imagine the tax revenue that would be generated from an individual and corporate CARBON TAX - literally billions?

I wonder how supportive all these so-called "green" companies are going to be when they are faced with paying a CARBON TAX. Believe me, global warming is the greatest marketing scam to come along in decades. Hopefully, the American consumer is going to wake up one day and realize they are paying considerably more for the same products they bought last year because the product is under the veil of being a "Green Product." If the CARBON TAX is imposed, you got it; the consumer is going to pay for that tax in increased product prices along with the alleged increase in manufacturing costs.

After all is said and done, we'll be paying more taxes and higher prices for our goods and services and guess what - we will NOT have made one iota of a dent in this perceived problem. I wonder how many conveniences in life will Americans be willing to give up to "feel good" about doing something to supposedly stop global warming? I can assure you this question is being asked by marketing people right now in order to capitalize on the answer.

Watch these politicians running for President tripping all over each other to convince us that they are "greener" than their opponent.

Let the Green Games begin...

Thank you Ms. Coulter for another great column that this time outs to the global warming hysteria and the biggest proponent of that by Mr. Al Gore. Thank you for also bringing to light Mr. Gore's own hypocrisy in the purchasing of carbon credits or carbon offsets, so he can continue his extravagant lifestyle. Mr. Gore has done well from self since leaving office nearly 8 years ago and continues to push the mantra of global warming as a religious fanatic. Thank you for doing what you do best and that's writing to make sense of what's going on and I appreciate your work and simplifying and bringing to light the lunacy that masquerades as truths.

Posted by: Joseph M. Gates [TypeKey Profile Page] at March 23, 2007 06:37 PM

The key phrase here, that identifies the main point is; "carbon credits". The main problem isn't that Algore is a hypocrite. He is, as are all of the Hollywood bleeding heart, self important media types, who all believe this tripe he is spouting. The problem is that "they" will use the power of government to force everyone else to comply. And when some small business owner, or private citizen "breaks the LAW", they will be fined, arrested, have their property expropriated etc. While Algore, and his ilk will be able through connections to "sell carbon credits" while they themselves are immune to these horrific totalitarian regulations that the regular people will have to endure under penalty of law. This is the main reason all of this global warming hysteria needs to be derailed. As soon as it becomes a crime to heat your house, drive to work, travel on a vacation etc, life in this country will cease being "free".

Posted by: tsnamm1 [TypeKey Profile Page] at March 23, 2007 08:40 PM

Right on, Ann.

Algore doesn't believe in G-d (remember he flunked out of divinity school--seminary), so he believes in global warming. If one believes in the G-dof the Bible, one has to explain how that G-d would be stupid enough to entrust the earth to a specie that could--and would--destroy it. That doesn't even take into account the enormous energy that it would take to warm up even a small portion of the earth for a short time. (Personally, I wonder if the global warming crowd lives in close quarters--such as New York City--where they can actually heat up each others' apartments.)

Let's ask Algore how many BTUs it takes to heat up Nashville (or wherever he is living). Can he tell us that? How many BTUs does it take to melt a mile of artic glacier? Need I ask more?

If Algore wants to make his life more environmentally friendly, he should stop speaking. It won't reduce the carbon much, but it will reduce the methane considerably.

Posted by: Loser [TypeKey Profile Page] at March 23, 2007 10:50 PM

Once again you've hit the nail squarely on the head, Ann! This man has an agenda for EVERYONE ELSE but himself (and his high-flying cronies) with their personal jets, constant world travels and expansive mansions to heat/cool. I'm sure any ONE residence of these global warming believers consumes more energy than a hundred normal homes - you know, the size most Americans live in. And most of these "believers" don't stop at just one mansion...let's be sure to count all of the main/vacation/weekend homes of the rich and famous. How many trips around the world to collect new children does Angelina make? Lots of spent carbon there, I would guess.

This whole idea makes a mockery of common sense and once again it comes across as we "regular folks" just don't have the smarts to understand - so they'll tell us what to believe, and DON'T question it! My oh my, don't we have some egotists who love to hear their own voices, regardless of the lack of any factual basis for what they say! What is Algore's comeback when challenged scientifically...it's a moral issue! Right!

I guess what I'm saying is they seem to think we are all fools - and I'm not buying their hocus-pocus theories for one second.

Loser - I agree if Algore would just shut his mouth and stop expelling all that hot air he might offset some of his carbon footprints! Without a doubt, if one wonders what a pompous a$$ looks/sounds like, one need look no farther than Algore!

Another point...if I heard correctly, he is one of the main partners in the company selling the carbon offsets - and his "offsets" were not even purchased, it was simply a company "gimme" - what a crock! And the worse part is, there are so many people who get 100% of their news from the MSM and believe if THEY say it, it has to be true...therefore keep saying it and saying it and saying it!

Ziggy:

I am shocked and dismayed at your posting. I had to read it and re-read it again.
For the first time in my memory you neglected to use the term "pussy liberals."
Please, my friend, do not let this happen again.

LynnJG:

Your critique of my comment leaves me wondering.

You cite: "“On the one hand, buying carbon-credits is akin to hiring someone to commit a crime. Someone
else does the dirty work and you get the benefit .”

I admit, I wrote that. But then you add: "You’re a bit off on that. It’s more like hiring someone to be good in your place while you continue your old ways of raiding, pillaging and plundering the planet.

Had you read the entirety of that paragraph you would have seen that I covered that base with: "perhaps, the Civil War practice that rich folk paid po’ folk to take their place in the War is a better analogy. Either way, you are buying your way out of responsibility."

I think that exactly sums up what you erroneously accused me of not saying. No matter how you cut it, it is the same thing.

Lynn, after all of our postings and personal persiflage, you of all people know that while I am not always right, I am hardly ever wrong.

God Bless and God Speed

The Chief Pomp-a$$, Regul Bai, AlGore said in his Senate testimony, (paraphrasing)- "When the incandescent light bulb is outlawed". Let me finish that thought with a bumper sticker catch-phrase- "Only Outlaws will be using incandescent light bulbs"! (myself included) NOTE: Regul refers to a fictional sci-fi race of beings in the C. J. Cherryh "Faded Sun" trilogy of novels. A great read! Should be a movie! I'll direct! There is a illustration of the Regul in the books, Bai is the title of a family head who are so body massive as to have muscular atrophy and be confined to motorized sleds for transport, Algore's arrogant posturing reminded me of the illustration of the Regul Bai.
