'Sorry' Doesn't Seem To Be The Hardest Word
Printer FriendlyBy: Ann Coulter
When will Republicans learn to stop apologizing?
The Bush administration is embroiled in the most ridiculous non-scandal scandal in human history — set off when the administration stupidly apologized for firing its own employees.
U.S. attorneys are political appointees who serve at the pleasure of the president. The president may fire them for any reason at all. That includes not implementing the president's policy about criminal prosecutions. It also includes being in the way of someone else whom the president wants to appoint for patronage reasons.
Why wasn't a fuss made when Bush fired Donald Rumsfeld? He is every bit as much a political appointee as the U.S. attorneys are.
Democrats have the breathtaking audacity to claim that Bush's replacing his own political appointees is "politicizing prosecutions."
They say this as Sandy Berger walks free after stealing and destroying top-secret national security documents — but Lewis "Scooter" Libby faces decades in prison for )not outing a covert agent. (Let's hope he's learned his lesson!)
They say this as Rep. William "The Refrigerator" Jefferson sits on the Homeland Security Committee while waiting for the $100,000 found in his freezer to thaw — but Tom DeLay remains under an indictment by some hick prosecutor in Texas for an alleged accounting violation.
They say this as Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid draws interest on the sale of a property he sold in a complicated land swindle — but American hero Randy "Duke" Cunningham rots in prison.
They say this while Sen. Chuck Schumer pays no price whatsoever for his Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee having illegally obtained a copy of Republican Lt. Gov. Michael Steele's credit report, for which one employee, Lauren Weiner, pleaded guilty, but served no prison time.
They say this while Sen. Teddy Kennedy is still at large (and getting larger).
Democrats have created a world in which a DNC card is a "get out of jail free" card, and "guilt beyond a reasonable doubt" means "no doubt the defendant is Republican." (If Democrats keep this up, they'll have to rethink their push to give inmates the right to vote.)
Then they turn around and say Republicans are "politicizing prosecutions" by firing their own employees. And all Republicans can do is apologize.
I refuse to parse the inane allegations the Democrats are making, to point out that Clinton's wholesale firing of Republican U.S. attorneys was worse, or to mention that some of these U.S. attorneys should have been fired a long time ago (Carol Lam).
Bush should say: "We did it, it was political, and there's nothing you can do about it."
Then he should start holding hearings on Congress' obstruction of the war effort. Members of Congress should be asked to come before the administration's hearings and testify under oath about their commitment to victory. If they are not traitors, what do they have to hide? Surely they will be willing to state under oath that they are not undermining the war effort for partisan political gain.
The hearings could be televised in prime time: "Traitor or No Traitor?"
The president's investigatory power is better grounded than is Congress'. There is no "hearings and investigations" clause in Article I, describing Congress' powers, but the Recommendation Clause of Article II, Section 3 obligates the president to "from time to time give to the Congress Information of the State of the Union."
If the State of the Union is that we have a treasonous majority in Congress that is affirmatively undermining American national security, the president is constitutionally obliged to give Congress information to that effect. How can he make that judgment without gathering the necessary data?
While he's at it, the Bush hearings should look into the Democrats' hiring and firing practices. Were the dedicated staffers who worked on various committees while the Republicans were in control retained by the incoming Democrats? Or were some of those staffers fired because of their (gasp!) partisan affiliation?
Finally, just for the Democrats' mentioning Randy "Duke" Cunningham's name, Bush should pardon him immediately.
Admittedly, in this one case, the Republican was actually guilty of something. Cunningham took bribes — he didn't kill a girl at Chappaquiddick. To put it another way, the only thing Duke Cunningham ever sank was his own career.
And in one glorious afternoon over North Vietnam, Duke Cunningham did more for his county than the entire Democratic caucus will do in a lifetime.
The president has absolute authority to fire U.S. attorneys, hold investigative hearings and grant pardons. What's he worried about? That the media will be hysterical and Democrats will call him names? Constantly apologizing doesn't seem to have worked out too well for him either. How about doing something for the Americans who elected him?
Ah, but I see he has! As we go to press, news comes across the transom that Bush has withdrawn the nomination of Sam Fox as ambassador to Belgium because Democrats are upset that Fox gave a donation to the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth.
There's no hope.

Ann, Ann, Ann…. When will you learn that the Democrabs are always doing the right thing, for the right reason, at the right time. Their only crime is that they are doing all this in a different dimension. Some might call it “Bizarro Planet.”
Ann, honey baby doll, this is the same bunch of swells who are supporting our troops by cutting off funds for their survival, by helping the Iraqi’s attain self-sufficiency by locking up the guard dogs and leaving the front door open for the burglars by setting a time line for surrender. These are the same valued citizens who support a woman’s right to choose while ignoring that more that half of the “choices” (or, as I call them, “murdered children”) are, in fact, of the female persuasion, one of the more popular genders.
Ann, love of my life, on the Reid/Pelosi Planet (Tedward having achieved sufficient mass to qualify as a planet on his own) up is down, right is left, stupid is smart and, of course, the President is always wrong.
Ann, my muse, no matter what, the Democrabs, Liberatzi, and the great unwashed hoards of Birkenstockistas will excoriate the Right and the Prez for anything that they do/he does, despite the fact that they have done much worse. Think of that joke where W was with Jesus and W walked on the water. The next day the NY Times headline was “George Bush Can Not Swim.”
Ann, oracle of all that is good and sublime, the Kool-Aid has been sipped and the hoi-polloi have been admonished to ignore the man behind the curtain. The Liberatzi are spewing the talking points that they are fed each day from the Shadow Ministry of Truth.
Ann, when you become the First Woman President, please anoint me Secretary of the Gulags. There is nothing at all that is wrong with the Democrabs and their cronies that can not be fixed with a long, LONG stay at a re-educational facility.
God Bless and God Speed
John

Terrific column, Ann and another bulls-eye!
When are Republicans going to learn that apologizing is entirely different for Democrats versus Republicans? Modern day Republicans certainly are NOT Reagan Republicans.
When Democrats apologize, Republicans are supposed to "forgive and forget", "not dwell on past mistakes", "turn the other cheek", "understand he/she is sorry", yada yada yada - I'm about to give myself a cavity with all of this politically correct syrup!
When Republicans apologize, it's a sure sign of weakness and fear and Democrats swarm into an unending feeding frenzy!
There is absolutely NO reason to apologize for following the letter of the law, or following the mandates of your position of power. What is appalling is when someone DOESN'T follow the letter of the law or the mandates of their position of power. That's a failure to do your job!
Remember when President Bush and VP Cheney were overheard and some reporter was referred to as a "backside orifice" due to a microphone being "accidentally" left on? Did Bush or Cheney apologize? No - absolutely not! And, everyone loved them for not apologizing for a comment that was not intended for public ears.
Republicans: stop backing down; stop apologizing; and stop cowering, especially when you are right!!!

You are about the ONLY true conservative left in this country that isn't a big, spineless sissy. I think you are the only voice real conservatives have to say what we think and then not apologize because someone's feelings were hurt. Keep up the excellent work!

The Republicans have now sunk to the level of the British, who at this very moment are running to the UN and begging for help for their captured service people. Tony Blair is wringing his hands and stomping his feet and repeating over and over, stop it, stop it, but dosen't have the balls to go beyond words. The Republicans are a pathetic bunch of sissys, cowtowing to a group of traitors and leftist nuts. They are so worried about getting reelected that they are destroying their own furtures by acting so spineless. They make me sick.

Dear Miss Coulter: By now you know that I love you; I mean I love you almost enough to abdicate the office of Abbot at John's one man monastery. But--if you were my beloved wife I would sure tell you to quit nit-picking my beloved President. The man knows what he is doing and could use some encouragement from us. Rip and roast the Democrat pigs: those workers of iniquity whose father murders and lies.

We should apologize loudly, profusely, and often for our National transgressions. But where should we start? For slavery, I'm for that, but let's start by requiring the Egyptians {and their present day allies} to apologize for holding the Hebrews (Jews) slaves for 600 years! And those same present day allies for kidnapping Africans (equatorial Negroids) and selling them to Europeans for transport and sale as property to Western Hemisphere Conquering Europeans as farm laborers. After several layers of such apologies we will get to apologize for the Slavery of the Irish to an overbearing British monarchy, or the Ukrainians to the Russian Czars and later the Soviet State. The list may continue, etc. Ad Nauseum. Then maybe our own (The U.S.) can be held accountable for its culpability in the heinous practice of Slavery, then when we sort out which citizens are descended from past Slaves and which from past Slaveowners- we can determine how to divvy up the "40 acres and a mule". We may be able to sort that out by 2075. We must not forget to apologize to our own Native-American population for just being here, or our Japanese-descended citizens for the WWII internment camps or to the citizens of Japan for our WWII use of nuclear weaponry on their sovereign territory in bringing that war to a conclusion, by destroying the lives of more than 300,000 persons we saved 3 million or (possibly 30 million, or 3 billion, pick a number) more from almost certain death by avoiding an invasion of the Japanese island nation, and with the demonstration of the destructive power of atomic weapons which has deterred their usage by the policy of Mutually Assured Destruction. Berlin Crisis 1949, Korean War 1951, Cuban Misslie Crisis 1962, VietNam War late 1960's, Yom Kippur War 1967, Seven Days War 1973, Sino-Indian War, Indian-Pakistani Stand-offs, all these confrontations could have resulted in Nuclear Wars, and most agree that in 1962 the world came within a eye blink of being bombed back to the Stone Age, but for the bombs being dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, so before we apologize for any of the above we (The U.S.) must apologize to the Japanese for our incessant, annual 55 years running rehash of that Day of Infamy December 7, 1941, where the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor WITHOUT WARNING, yet we barely bat an eye over the September 11, 2001 Islamo-Fascist Terrorist attack and destruction and death of 3000 on the NYC Twin Towers WITHOUT WARNING. All apologies must be accompanied by heartfelt tears- deep bows and curtseys, kneeling, pleading, and groveling and will be judged for sufficient degree of sincerity, any failure to convey contrite empathy and compassion will be addressed by copious amounts of Foreign Aid, Federal Grants for Housing and Education, and many worthwhile philanthropic endeavours at taxpayer expense.

Thank you for a pointed, lucid illustration of American destruction today, Anne. If we could elect you President, instead of the top three check-pants Rino's running now, on your inauguration day, the Middle East Lunatics would have an instant change of heart. As long as Western Civilization continues to negotiate with Islamic Goon squads, and their turd world leaders, they'll serve up a new hostage crisis on a daily basis. (Just keep apologizing, President Bush. Maybe you and Tony Blair can hold hands, singing Kum Ba Ya, and all the bad men will stop picking on us.) I still have hope, Anne, but it's fading fast.

The last 3 years the President has done 2 bad things:A. Become a left wing one world man ; and B. lost his spine.
He threw Libby under the bus to appease the MSM/DNC in 04. Now he is afraid to say "what my people did is , and has been , common practice for all Presidents". Instead he and Alberto tell bad lie after bad lie. The lies get proved to be lies in short order which adds fuel to the MSM/DNC fire. Bush is killing the Republican party . I had hoped after the 06 election he would be forced to become less liberal and more forceful. My hopes were in vain. He is just as liberal and gutless in 07 as he was from 04 - 06. Bad news for the Republican Party. Good news for the Dems and Billary.

Thank you, Ann...and please do NOT let up on this subject! The Democrats see apologies as weakness and then they simply demand more and more and more - to show the world they are pulling the strings of US government. The Republicans in office must hold steady and go forward - "damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!"
As a more famous Teddy than TK used to say, "speak softly and carry a big stick!" We must always show strength...no more "sorries" or other touchy-feely methods...STRENGTH!!!

This is a good question:
"How about doing something for the Americans who elected him?"
I've just about sworn off the republican party. They're cowards, they're not true to their constituency, and their not true to their party's fundamental goal of smaller government and lower taxes.

FINALLY someone has the nards to put all of that in to one column. Go figure that Ann Coulter has more nards than the entire Congress. The pussy-liberals screech like banshees about made-up issues...and the Republicans quiver like purse dogs. It's pathetic and disgusting. There is no leadership in the Republican Party. I've seen more leadership from a group of Cub Scouts. If you want to know what the pussy-liberals are doing and have done...just listen to what they are whining and screeching about.
Ann Coulter tells serious truths...but they need to be told in commercials during American Idol and The View to be seen by the lemming masses that currently make up most of America. The pussy-liberals know that if they say things often enough, people will believe them because at least half of America is stupid as a sack of hammers.
Do we as conservatives have a leader that can step up and take control of things? Unfortunately, I have little name recognition...but I'd be kicking some political ass! And Ann Coulter would be my Secretary of Whoop-ass!...handing out cups of "shut the hell up" too all those pussy-liberals she so eloquently discusses.
God help us all when America becomes the socialist country that the pussy-liberals want us to become.
"Now I'm calling on citizens from all over the world, this is Captain America calling. I held you up when you were down on your knees, so would you catch me now I'm falling." The Kinks

Ok, gang, for those of you who are old enough, you may be reminded of Monty Python’s Flying Circus, from whom I blatantly ripped off the above from their “Apology Sketch.”
Just like that band of comics there are a more sinister and devious band of comics who feel the need to apologize for every wrong ever committed, real or imagined.
The way I look at it, there is no need to apologize for, well, anything in this administration. If this administration or any of its members did anything, there was probably a good reason for doing it, they meant to do it. If some one is upset about what was done, they need to get over it.
I am sick and tired of America apologizing for the War in Iraq. I am tired of the Administration apologizing for firing the 8 US Attorneys. I am tired of seeing military and cabinet secretaries being hauled before some kangaroo court of Marxists, Leninists, Liberals and other garden variety Democrabs. I am sick of it.
The Waxmans, Kennedys, Kerrys, Clintons (your choice, pick one or the set), Ben-Venistes, Reids, Pelosis and the rest of the “pussy liberals” (as Ziggy Spaz would call them) ought to be dragged in front of a committee, commission or, better yet, a judge and be forced to forfeit THEIR 5th Amendment rights and be asked the tough questions under oath.
There would have to be an early release program to make room in our penal system to accommodate the Democrats who could be the recipients of their own kind of justice.
From land grabbers, tax cheats, killers, thieves and, well, how does one explain away $90k of cold cash in his fridger, this bunch of ne’er-do-wells could become the next “American Idle’s” as they cool their heals in lock up for sometime.
Nah, just wishful thinking.
The Reps will never attack the Dems with the force and vitriol that happens when the shoe is on the other foot. The Dems would not apologize for anything at all ever. Even caught with the smoking gun in their hand, a dead body still oozing blood, 50 witnesses and the whole thing covered by a television network and broadcast nationwide, there is STILL no way that a Dem would admit to a crime and you can be assured that the LSM would some how find a way to blame Rove for planting the body, Bush for putting the gun the perps hands and Cheney for rolling the tape.
And, some Rep would apologize for it!
The sooner the Reps come to Jesus and start acting like they have a pair, the sooner the Dems might back down.
One can only hope!
God Bless and God Speed

Gonzales is just the tip of the iceberg.
Rove will now be investigated and probably prosecuted for violating the Hatch Act.
One by one, this Administration will be taken down politically before this term is finished.
Eventually, they will get something on Bush, and make such a public spectacle of it, that the Republicans in Congress (at least those who wish to be reelected) will go along with a vote for impeachment.
Just watch.

kevind and other liberals like him are stunning in their everestal lack of knowledge of things political. They may want to see something so desperately to happen that they create imaginary scenarios that suit their delusion. “Hatch Act” are you kidding me?
If you want an example of abuse of the Hatch Act one needs to look no further than the inventor of the internet, muse of “Love Story”, third baseman of the 1919 White Sox, and diviner of the Earth’s thermostatic setting, Algore. Do a Google search of “Al Gore Illegal Fundraising” and you will get a surfeit of options ranging from Algore making calls from the White House to Chicoms looking for ‘sacrole to collecting a sack of loot at a Buddhist Temple in Los Angeles and not knowing that he a) collected a sack of loot and b) did not know he was in a Buddhist Temple.
I am sure that I am being unfair here, picking on self-appointed climatologist Algore. After all, he was BJ Clinton’s veep and per the Liberal Manifesto, Clinton can not be guilty of anything and his cronies share that immunity.
The Liberatzi, Birkenstockistas and other assorted malcontents and moonbats have been clamoring for the head of Rove since day one. I guess he must be doing something right then!
But, drive-by poster kevind, I will be happy to wager that you maintain your current streak of prognostications and are wrong on each and every one of your little dreams.
Happy Palm Sunday

Once again, John, you have attributed my 'prediction' to a desire to see it come true.
If I had that sort of power, I would be predicting I win the Lottery tonight :)
I am merely stating what I believe is going to happen.
Congress has already sent a letter to the White House to begin investigating Rove for violations of the Hatch Act. This is not something I pulled out of thin air.
And if you will recall, my only other prognostication was that the Democrats would take both the House and the Senate last November.
I wasn't wrong then, either.
You seem like a smart guy. Open your eyes.
I'm telling you, the AG is the tip of the iceberg.

I hate to be accurate but the Dems did not win both houses of Congress. While they do have a majority in the House the Senate is split 49-49 with 2 independents. Granted the 2 Indy's generally vote with the Dems, it is a technical majority at best.
So, in my book, like half the teams on the opening day of baseball, you are 0-1.
Wish for what you may, it does not make it so. Such is the downfall of the left.
Have a swell day!
